Review of DreamLeague Season 13: The Leipzig Major
L1mon4ikkkThe second major of the season held in Germany got completed. In total, sixteen teams were taking part in the competition and the guys from Team Secret became the winner beating Evil Geniuses 3:2 at the grand final. Puppey and the team earned $300,000 of grabs and 4850 DPC points and it was enough to get to The International 2020. We will tell you about the team that managed to surprise or disappointed spectators.
Virtus.Pro
The team Virtus.Pro may be the biggest disappointment of the tournament. The players overcame the qualifiers for the championship easily and the captain of the team reported that DreamLeague would be a real test for the roster. As a result, Bears took the last place in the group and lost the very first round of the playoff stage getting located on the last position at the event.
Obviously, the players and the organization do not sit well with this result. In the previous season, the esportsmen could be seen among Four Best at Majors, so many insiders have already told about a reshuffle in the main roster. Rumor has it that the current captain of Natus Vincere - Zayac - will join the team.
By the way, this option is quite possible as Virtus.Pro got interested in the player during the transfer period and taking into account the last results of ‘Born to Win’, the organization may be eager to negotiate.
Alliance
Meanwhile, the representatives of Alliance managed to make a big surprise. The players showed themselves well during the season and the guys approached the event not as outsiders, however, a few people expected the fourth position from them. We can say that the roster was lucky to get their opponents as their group was not difficult and at the playoff they beat only the mediocre Natus Vincere and Team Liquid known for the qualifiers. As soon as Alliance’s opponents were Tier-1 teams, the European mix lost.
Despite everything we mentioned, FATA and the team still play well and the fourth position is a great result. It was not an accident at all and the proof for is the previous events as LodA’s players reached quite high positions.
Vici Gaming, Evil Geniuses, and Liquid
The teams Vici Gaming, Evil Geniuses, and Team Liquid are categorized as the most stable, as despite the replacements, the players perform successfully not only in this season, and the saying ‘stability is a sign of mastership’ can be the way these rosters are described.
Evil Geniuses got to Four Best at all LAN tournaments where they participated in this season and DreamLeague Season 13 was not an exception. There the guys reached the grand final where they lost against Team Secret 3:2 and were one step away from victory.
In the previous season, Vici Gaming showed themselves great at Major events and continued this tendency in the current one. At MDL Chengdu Major, the guys got placed on the second position and after that, they won the non-rating ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational Singapore and at the first Major this year, they can be seen in Three Best again.
Team Liquid is the last representative of these three teams. Even though Boxi and the roster make some mistakes and show not a strong team, they managed to reach the 5-6 position at this event and the previous major. In the group, the guys’ way was not so ideal and they had to start their way from the lower part of the bracket where they pulled themselves together and kicked Virtus.Pro, Natus Vincere, and TNC Predator out of the tournament. The team left the event because of the loss from Alliance. Therefore, Liquid moves towards the goal little by little - the players want to get a direct invitation to the event.
Beastcoast
The game of the Peruvians from Beastcoast is a true surprise as they got the 7-8 place. They were not so lucky to get to one group with Vici Gaming and Team Secret. It was unlikely for the esportsmen to beat such opponents but they had no problems when they confronted CHAOS. At the playoff, the team defeated their countrymen from paiN Gaming easily and made a sensation with Nigma. We should not forget that it happened when the team had a substitute at the championship.
Team Secret
The champions of DreamLeague Season 13: The Leipzig Major showed themselves fantastically beating the event not moving down to the lower part of the bracket. The team had a long rest from the previous The International, and at ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational Singapore, the players were not able to show their best side and they didn’t seem to fail their optimal shape.
In Group B, the roster took first place beating Vici Gaming, and at the playoff defeated Fnatic, Alliance, Vici Gaming, and Evil Geniuses at the grand final. The captain of the roster clarified that the team had got approximately 60-70% from their optimal shape and would come back to the next Major even stronger.
As a result, Liquid’s championship is hardly a surprise, however, sportsbooks believed in Vici Gaming more and a great deal of lost maps prooves that the team’s shape is not perfect but even this was not an obstacle for them when they were raising the cup over their heads.
The others
The other participant in the event performed pretty predictably but we will highlight Reality Rift and Natus Vincere among them.
The team from Southeast Asia was not able to get higher than the 13-16 place but performed pretty well. Reality Rift really lacks experience of performing at Major LAN tournaments whereas DreamLeague Season 13: The Leipzig Major was a debut rating tournament for them. The guys held the pick stage well and they knew the meta while many players of the other teams gave credit to NutZ and the team.
Meanwhile, Natus Vincere stands out only because the players managed to make it to the higher bracket of the playoff of the Major event after the group stage for the first time in two years. The guys beat Team Liquid and Evil Geniuses in the group but the roster’s game at the playoff went wrong.
