ViCi Gaming is one of the most famous multigaming organizations in China. The organization became well-known thanks to its Dota 2 team that is going to be introduced in the following piece.
At first the tag ViCi Gaming appeared on the radars of the esports community in 2012. In September, the club was founded as well as the first Dota 2 roster. It included:
Almost right after the foundation, the team got qualified for one of the most prestigious championships in the Chinese region – G-League Season 2. At the tournament, the team took 5th-6th place being unable to cope with the high competition there.
It happened in January 2013, and ViCi spent all the following year trying to find a suitable roster. In January, the team took on YaphetS, who had a little time to play for ViCi.
In March, the team welcomed ZSMJ, and two weeks later a second roster was founded and existed for several month, from Month and June. In June, the team lost Fy and XTT.
In July, TuTu became a member of the team. In August, Cty left the team, and the team took on Super and rOtK. Later the team was completed by Sylar.
In the period of those wild reshuffles, ViCi had a chance to participate in tournaments. Some of them were pretty fruitful for the players. In 2013 ViCi became the winners of Sina Cup Supernova Dota 2 Open Season 2 and RaidCall EMS One Fall Season. Both championships met ViCi’s new roster that included Super and rOtK.
One Step Away from Championship
In 2014, ViCi Gaming gained momentum. The average team with 5th-6th place turned into a strong contestant.
In January 2014, the team finished third at Dota 2 League Season 4. Two months later the players stopped one step away from victory at Sina Cup Supernova Dota 2 Open Season 3. Later the team won third place at Netolic Pro League #5 East and second place at WVW National Electronic Sports Classic April. Then the team got placed 3rd-4th at MarsTV Dota 2 League 2014, third at The Summit, and fourth at ECL SPRING.
ViCi Gaming was approaching The International 2014 as an underdog. However, the tournament made it clear that the team was not going to give up easily. The team won the first round of The International 2014 providing themselves with a slot in playoffs. At the main stage ViCi managed to make it to the grand final where the team got defeated by Newbee with the score of 3-1.
After the failure at The International 2014, the team dismissed rOtK and Sylar. Their slots were taken by Black^ and iceiceice.
After the changes in the roster, ViCi won i-League Season 1, ESL One New York 2014 and The Summit 2. A series of those successful performances breathed a new life into the team.
In 2015, ViCi continued moving into top gear.
Attempt Number Two
In January 2015, ViCi took third place at i-League Season 2, after that in February the players stopped one step away from winning Dota 2 Asia Championship 2015.
After the streak of bad shows, the team lost Black^ whose place was given to Hao. The renewed roster won VPGame Pro League Season 1 and StarLadder StarSeries Season 12, and also took second place at Dota 2 Champions League Season 5.
In May, the team got third place at The Summit 3 and second place at i-League Season 3. June started with the fourth position at MarsTV Dota 2 League 2015 Spring and finished with 5th-8th place at ESL One Frankfurt 2015 and World Cyber Arena 2015.
At the upcoming International 2015 ViCi Gaming were going to take revenge for the previous year. However, their hard work was in vain. ViCi Gaming got placed fourth and got beaten by their countrymen from LGD Gaming.
After the performance at TI 2015, the team lost Hao and his position was given to BurNing. Before 2015 finished, ViCi had taken second place at Nanyang Dota 2 Championship and 5th-6th place at The Frankfurt Major 2015. In 2016, ViCi went through a bad streak and reshuffles.
ViCi’s Dark Times
The beginning of 2016 was pretty rough for ViCi. In January, the team took 5th-6th place at MarsTV Dota 2 League 2015 Winter, and later ViCi was absolutely destroyed at The Shanghai Major 2016. This was the point when the team jumped off to constant reshuffles
In March, Fenrir and iceiceice left the team. It was followed by fy’s transfer to Vici Gaming Reborn. In the same month ViCi announced a new roster with rOtK, Cty, Hym and jdh in the team. Later jdh was replaced by Sylar.
The strong roster including BurNing and rOtK seemed to put an end to the changes in the team but ViCi intended to be a powerful force in the Chinese region. Unlikely, it did not happen. The team failed all championships. By the end of the year ViCi had taken second place only once at World Cyber Arena 2016. And that was done by a new roster.
The makeover saga went on in 2017. In January the team welcomed Ori. However, it was not possible for the players to change the results in a good way. The whole 2017 gave ViCi a lot of chances to play at qualifying tournaments without any outstanding achievements.
In 2017, as well as in 2016, the team did not participate in The International which turned into another trigger for new changes in the roster of the Chinese grand.
In September, the club welcomed Paparazi, eLeVeN, Fenrir, and LaNm. Only Ori stayed in the team as an old player.
This roster represented ViCi Gaming in the next DPC season.
The results of the team worsened in 2018. ViCi again began to take worthy places in the top. This is what happened at Captains Draft 4.0 in January, at ESL One Katowice 2018 in February and at Dota2 Professional League 2018 S1: Top. However, there were failures like at The Bucharest Major where the team took 12th-14th place.
The end of the spring and the beginning of the summer were also bumpy for ViCi. Even though in May the team won third place at MDL Changsha Major, later in that month ViCi took 10th-12th place at ESL One Birmingham 2018. June brought the team the 5th-6th place at China Dota2 Supermajor.
Nevertheless, ViCi’s results let the team pass directly to The International 2018. However, at the very championship the players were unable to climb higher than the 9th-12th place in the rating. After that, Paparazi and Ori stayed in the team. In September, the team was completed by Fade and Dy.
2019-2020 and the Pandemic Period
ViCi’s new roster entered the new DPC season. It started with the 7th-8th place at The Chongqing Major. In March 2019, the team won StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 1, after that the players consolidated success at DreamLeague Season 11.
In May, the team finished 7th-8th at MDL Disneyland Paris Major and took 5th-6th place at ESL One Birmingham 2019. In June, the team won EPICENTER Major 2019. There were huge hopes about the team at the upcoming TI 2019.
The tournament was pretty good for the ViCi: 5th-6th place. However, the roster was changed again. In September, Fade left the roster and his slot was taken by Pyw.
After The International 9, ViCi won Midas Mode 2-Asia, and the players also took second place at MDL Chengdu Major.
Also in December 2019, ViCi won ONE Esports Dota 2 World Pro Invitational Singapore.
2020 started with third place at DreamLeague Season 13 which became the last big results for the team.
When the pandemic came, ViCi as well as other teams, started to participate in online championships. They were unable to brag the status of Tier-1 teams.
In 2020, ViCi won OGA Dota PIT Season 1: China in May 2020 and took second place at BEYOND EPIC: China and OGA Dota PIT S2: China. Later the team finished at DPL-CDA Professional League Season 2 which was the last tournament for the roster of those times.
In September ViCi announced a new roster. It consisted of:
· old eLeVeN
Erica is actually a sixth player who performed as a substitute for 23savage. This roster helped ViCi to win OGA Dota PIT S3: China and take 5th-6th places at CDA-FDC Professional Championship Season 2 and China Dota2 Pro Cup Season 2.
Organization and Awards
The manager of the Dota 2 roster is Xu XIaoyun. The captain band was tied up on Dy’s arm. ViCi collaborated with such brands like Douyu, HyperX and DXRacer.
Since the moment of the foundation of Dota 2 subdivisions, the rosters have made over $8,800,000 of grabs.
