The general information
StarLadder Berlin Major 2019 will be hosted from August 23 to September 8. The overall prize pool of the largest CS:GO championship will amount $1,000,000. 24 teams will take part in its distribution. Eight of them have made it to The Legends Stage due to they had entered the top eight at the previous Major. Vitality, AVANGAR, HellRaisers, G2, and Complexity Gaming have received invitations to The Challengers Stage due to the 9th-14th place at the first Major. Cloud9 also received such a benefit but lost a spot due to replacements of players on its roster. The rest of the teams have advanced to the event through regional Minors. Verti Music Hall, which is located in Berlin, Germany, will be a venue for The New Challengers Stage and The New Legends Stage. The final stage for the top eight teams will be hosted at Mercedes-Benz Arena.
The format
The Challengers Stage will be hosted by the Swiss system. Regular matches will be run in a bo1 format, while elimination matches will be carried out in a bo3 series. Eight winners will get to The Legends Stage. The lower eight will finish their participation in the tournament.
The Legends Stage, just like the first stage, will be hosted by the Swiss system. Like The Challengers Stage, regular matches will be played in a bo1 format and elimination matches will be held in a bo3 format. The top eight will advance to The Champions Stage where the major part of the prize pool will be up for grabs.
The format of The Champions Stage is more traditional. We will see the best rosters in a single-elimination bracket with bo3 matches.
All participants of The Champions Stage will receive invitations to The Legends Stage of the next Major tournament. Teams to place 9th-14th will become the owners of invites to The Challengers Stage of the first 2020 Major.
The prize pool
The overall prize pool of $1,000,000 will be distributed among teams in the following way:
- 1st place — $500,000 + the Legend status
- 2nd place — $150,000 + the Legend status
- 3rd-4th place — $70,000 + the Legend status
- 5th-8th place — $35,000 + the Legend status
- 9th-14th place — $8,750 + an invitation to The Challengers Stage of the first Major tournament of 2020
- 15th-16th place — $8,750
