In 2020, the best teams in the world competed in the regional rating leagues of 2020 for the right to participate in the main tournament of the year ESL One Rio 2021 Major Championship. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the main tournament of the year was canceled. Despite the cancelation of the Major, Valve made a logical decision to consider the teams’ results in the 2020 qualifiers and announced CS: GO RMR Capsules 2020 – the teams, which have made it to ESL One Rio 2021, receive a particular number of points (depending on the stage, to which they have advanced, according to RMR-2020):

RMR tournaments in 2021

In 2021, Valve will continue hosting RMR (Regional Major Rankings) competitions to determine the best 24 teams, which will receive spots in PGL Major Stockholm 2021. Minor tournaments are not intended to organize in 2021, all participants of the Major will be determined in accordance with Regional Major Rankings. Also, the rules of removing the earned points when teams use stand-ins during RMR events (these rules are relevant in February 2021) were also updated:

  • Teams can list a stand-in player at every event (it can be a player who is not listed by another team in the main roster or as a stand-in, also, it can’t be a coach of the team). A team will receive a penalty in the form of -20% from the points earned at the event for every use of a stand-in player. For example, if a team uses a stand-in in two matches, it will receive 2 consistent penalties – (100% - 20%) - 20% – as a result, the team will have only 64% of the earned points.
  • A reverse substitution of a stand-in player by the initial one is made without a penalty
  • When registering a roster at the event, a team can replace up to 2 players of the roster from the past event. However, a penalty in the form of 20% of all earned points will be received for every replacement. When 3 and more players are replaced, the team will lose all earned points.
  • If a team registers a player who was a stand-in at the past competition for an event, it will also receive a 20% penalty on all points.
  • The use of a different roster in matches between RMR events by a team does not lead to the penalty
  • A team loses all earned points with the change of its region
