Valve Resets RMR Points in CS:GO: Winners and Losers
Elen StelmakhLately Valve has decided to pay a shot presenting the renewed rules of getting qualified for Major which affected the esports integrity in the industry.
Let us start with the fact that absolutely all teams suffered from these changes. This refers to the prohibition for coaches and staff to participate in matches. From now on, only players are responsible for what is happening on the map and none of them can reanimate a match with their suggestions. Besides, now we will not see coaches at either TeamSpeak, or on the server as a viewer, or behind the players at LAN events. And everyone will have to deal with it as Valve got really mad with the professional community because of the bug story.
Valve did not pass by the rosters’ issue. The company literally said: “If you want to play six, be ready to pay”. On the one hand, this decision was right – if you are financially independent, do not stand out from the crowd. So Vitality, Astralis, and NAVI will have to think really hard before they change players during a match. However, there is a flip side of the coin which makes us reconsider Valve’s real understanding of the whole esports component.
Valve did not stop there and they reset all gained RMR points. It appears that at the previous season teams had three meaningless championships as they have lost all their achievements. And now the teams will have to fight for their RMR points again starting with the zero kilometer. This story resulted in the appearance of two sides: winners and losers. We are going to tell you about these teams separately to evaluate positive and negative impact from Valve’s decision.
Losers
Heroic
The Danish players had two wonderful RMR tournaments and got placed on the second position in total. Therefore, Heroic got a direct invitation to Legends having gained 4125 RMR points in sum. We can’t say that the team have torn themselves away from their opponents, however, we have to remember that Heroic has got zero points for Berlin 2019 and Road to Rio.
Now the Danish gamers are going to start with 600 RMR points as they rolled back to the start. But we should take into account the current shape of the team that is going to decline when LAN tournaments return. Even though today the Danish players are not showing the game that let them take second place in the RMR rating.
Ninjas in Pyjamas
The Swedish gamers are in absolutely the same situation as Heroic. Ninjas in Pyjamas were at the peak of their abilities in the previous season, not shining but gaining well-deserved RMR points. However, now the team are going to start with 600 points which will have a huge impact on NiP’s prospects of getting Legend status.
Besides, the current gaming shape of the team does not inspire confidence – Ninjas in Pyjamas are likely to go through reshuffles that will push the team several steps back.
GODSENT
Firstly, in this case we are talking about FunPlus Phoenix where GODSENT found his new gaming home. Secondly, right now the teammates are not showing even an iota of the game that let them gain 3238 RMR points. Вполневероятно, оставь If Valve had left everything untouched, FunPlus Phoenix would have been likely to make it to the Major as a Contender. But now there are doubts that the team will be able to keep their position if they start with 300 points in store.
100 Thieves
Again, in this case we are not talking about 100 Thieves, about EXTREMUM in particular, as he joined the skeleton of the team. So now we know where exactly the team will be playing as EXTREMUM is going to base in Europe.
Secondly, the organization was going to play RMR tournaments in North America, but now it is not advantageous for EXTREMUM to fly to another Continent. Besides, it is still hard to imagine how good the team’s shape is as the gamers have not played since autumn.
FURIA
The Brazilians with 5375 RMR points were going to make it to the Major as a Legend. Moreover, the team had a better reserve than Team Liquid that failed in the autumn. Besides, right now FURIA look awful as they can easily get defeated by all their opponents. And even the European makeup of the Brazilians is darkened with constant losses from their colleagues.
Team Spirit
If we take a look at the CIS stage, the biggest losses concern Spirit as the previous season resulted in 5663 RMR points for the team defining its leader’s position in the chart. However, now the team will have to start from the beginning. If we take into account the fact that NAVI, Gambit and Virtus.pro play much better, the «dragons» can lose the Legend status after the first RMR tournament.
Nemiga Gaming
The Belarusian team took the third position in CIS by the results of the previous season as the gamers gained 5269 RMR points. However now the team has less chances to proceed to Stockholm. Firstly, in the previous season Nemiga got defeated not only by Spirit or NAVI, but also Virtus.pro and Gambit. Secondly, in CIS there are lots of teams that find the reset beneficial.
TYLOO and Renegades
Asia and Oceania deserve special attention as TYLOO and Renegades have become leaders in those areas respectively. Despite the teams’ domination in their homelands, their opponents started to breathe down their neck in the season. But now there is a reset, and TYLOO and Renegades are likely to walk past Stockholm.
Winners
Astralis
The main beneficiary of the story is Astralis. The Danish players moped around in the spring: they missed cs_summit 6 and lost 480 RMR points because of the rotation. As a result, the team got placed on the fourth position of the total, being eight points behind Heroic.
It is logical that this state of things did not satisfy Astralis. However, the Danish were truly lucky as Valve decided to reset. And now the gamers are likely to fight for their well-deserved spot in Legends even though they are 300 points behind.
Complexity
Jason Lake must be really happy about the news from Valve. His Complexity failed all three RMR tournaments and dealt with inability to get to the Major. But now there is a new chapter for the team that must no matter what return their sniper and stop sitting in the corner.
Dignitas
The gamers from Dignitas are in the same situation: they used to hold the last place in the overall standings. However, today the team shows a great Counter Strike at cs_summit 7. And if the Scandinavians don’t lose their shape, they will be able to get hooked on the valuable RMR points.
mousesports
mousesports wanted to forget the previous season. The team failed all three RMR tournaments as they will be left out of the picture until the next Major. But now «mice» get a real chance to prove that it is too early to dismiss them. And in terms of cs_summit 7, the team is showing an interesting game.
Virtus.pro
The champions from FLASHPOINT 2 won New York last autumn but they got placed on the fourth position and did not get to Legends. But if the start of the previous season was bumpy for VP, today the team is ready to become the main rival for NAVI as they compete for a slot at the Major. And it is also a pity for the team that became the second at Berlin 2019 to begin with the Contender’s level in Stockholm.
Gambit
This situation is similar to VP’s case. For starters, before the news from Valve, Gambit was supposed to get the fifth place which used to belong to Espada. But the latter decided to disband their roster and lost their slot at the Major. Nevertheless, Gambit can cling to fighting and get squeezed to the third place. Right now the team is going to another trophy with their head up high and their shape optimum. So we should expect Gambit to be in great conditions at the first RMR tournament of the year.
forZe, Winstrike, K23 and ex-ETHEREAL
It won’t be a surprise if any of the teams makes it to top-five. Yes, the teams failed at the previous RMR tournaments. However, now all teams with no exceptions are recovering. And we are looking forward to the race for a slot in Stockholm.
ViCi Gaming and TIGER
TYLOO’s main followers in Asia keep up with «dragons» in the quality of gaming. Besides, in the previous season ViCi Gaming and TIGER got really close to TYLOO, breaking the hegemony in the region. And now the teams get a real chance to prove their elastic conscience to the whole stage and deprive TYLOO of a slot in Stockholm.
Team Liquid
Liquids had troubles in the previous season, and, as a result, the team stayed on the fourth position of the total as they gained only 4795 RMR points. However, now Liquid has a chance to make it to Legends and kick out not only 100 Thieves, but also Evil Geniuses with FURIA. Moreover, as TL’s quality of gaming is much stronger than their opponents’.
ORDER
The second team in Australia got really close to Renegades in the previous season. Yes, ORDER got stable second places at Road to Rio and POL Fall. However, the hegemony of the region is not going to come in Europe so the followers have a chance to catch Renegades by surprise and to shut them out of the place in the sun.
