Getting ready for the start of the IEM Winter 2021 playoffs
/The IEM Winter 2021 playoffs will begin in a few hours. At the same time, following the results of the group stage, we said goodbye to Heroic, Astralis, OG, TYLOO, FaZe Clan, BIG, fnatic, Liquid, MOUZ and ENCE, who were unable to resist the six teams that made it to the IEM Winter 2021 playoffs. In this regard, we propose to get acquainted with the remaining participants of the tournament and remember their path to the playoffs.
Semifinalists of IEM Winter 2021
Two teams, G2 and Virtus.pro, managed to get through to the semifinals of the championship. These teams scored three group stage wins, giving them a week's respite from the competition.
The team from the CIS started their way in the group with a difficult victory over ENCE, because only in overtime they managed to close dycha and the company on the Ancient map, having recorded the victory with a score of 19:17. In the group semifinals, Virtus.pro also outplayed Gambit with some difficulty, having closed the compatriots on two maps with a score of 2: 0. Well, in the final of the upper bracket, the team faced GODSENT. And if on the first map the Brazilians tried to resist, then at their own pick VP closed TACO and the company without a chance, thereby making their way to the semifinals.
The tournament path for G2 began with a difficult victory over TYLOO, which caused a real hassle for the French in the second half of the Mirage map. However, G2 coped with these difficulties, thereby getting to Liquid. In the semifinals, the team again had to give all their best, as the North Americans imposed a fight. Nevertheless, G2 won a tough 2-0 victory, thus guaranteeing participation in the playoffs of IEM Winter 2021. In the final of the upper bracket, G2 had to play with Vitality, which had shown confident CS up to this point. However, after the scandalous ending at Vertigo, the G2 players got together and showed two strong cards to snatch victory and make their way to the semifinals.
Quarter-finalists of IEM Winter 2021
The undoubted outsiders of the playoffs from those present are NIP and GODSENT. At the same time, the teams will face each other, while the winner of the series will reach the semifinals at G2. If the tournament path for NIP began with an unexpected victory over Astralis, then already in the semifinals the Swedes were beaten by ZywOo and the company, thereby falling into the lower bracket. However, here NIP showed a will to win, beating OG and Liquid, albeit with the most impressive style.
In turn, GODSENT became a real revelation of the championship. The Brazilian team managed to beat Heroic and BIG, thereby guaranteeing a ticket to the playoffs in advance. And yet, in the decisive match, TACO and company failed to cope with Virtus.pro, rolling back to the quarter-finals of the competition.
At the same time, we are waiting for an extremely intriguing quarterfinal with the participation of Vitality and Gambit. It is difficult to pick a favorite ahead of time, despite the fact that the French are leading in head-to-head matches with a score of 2-0. At the same time, the fight is interesting in two confrontations: ZywOo vs sh1ro, apEX vs nafany. It is these duels that will determine the outcome of the fight, which undoubtedly draws on the regalia of the IEM Winter 2021 finals.
