Participants of The International 2022: Team Spirit

The International 11 is getting closer. All the participants of both the tournament itself and the Last Chance Qualifier have already become known. On our website, we continue to talk about the participants of the upcoming Dota 2 World Championship. In this episode of The International 2022 Participants, we will talk about the current world champions, Team Spirit.

Results in the ranking season

Tour 1

Probably as well as PSG.LGD, this game season was played by Team Spirit. YATOROGOD and the team played perfectly during the DPC EEU 2021/2022 Tour 1: Division I. Team Spirit won all 7 matches. The only club that was able to pick up one card from the TI 10 champions was Natus Vincere. Thus, the team's winning percentage was 93.33% (14 wins, 1 loss). Team Spirit earned $30,000 and 300 DPC points. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Valve canceled the first Major of the year. Instead, the teams took part in the regional finals.

The start of DPC EEU 2021/2022 Tour 1: Regional Final was not the most successful for Spirit. In the first match of the upper bracket, Miposhka and their teammates lost to HellRaisers with a score of 1:2. The team fell to the lower bracket where they faced PuckChamp. The world champions easily outplayed the opponent on two maps in a row and reached the finals of the losers bracket. They had a rematch against HellRaisers. Spirit players caught the courage and defeated Malady and the team with a score of 2:0. In the grand finals, Team Spirit left no chance for Virtus.pro, defeating them with a score of 3:0. The championship in the regional finals earned YATOROGOD and the team $50,000 and 250 DPC points.

Tour 2

Due to the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the usual DPC league was disrupted. At DPC EEU 2021/2022 Tour 2: Division I Playoffs, Team Spirit followed the usual path. In the upper bracket, the team lost to BetBoom Team with a score of 1:2. Having defeated HellRaisers, the world champions were supposed to play against Outsiders, but they were disqualified. Pure, the carry of the Outsiders team, drew a “Z” symbol on the map in a match against Mind Games. Then Team Spirit outplayed Natus Vincere and Mind Games with a score of 2:0. For 2nd place in the tournament, YATOROGOD and the team received $14,000, 240 DPC points and a slot in ESL One Stockholm 2022.

The only failure of Team Spirit this year was the performance at ESL One Stockholm 2022. Miposhka and his teammates had problems even in the group stage. The team defeated the outsiders Thunder Awaken and Fnatic, tied with TSM, but lost to Gaimin Gladiators and Team Liquid. In the replay, Team Spirit managed to reach the upper bracket of the playoffs. There, the reigning world champions lost in a full bo3 series to Tundra Esports, and then lost to Beastcoast in the loser's bracket. 9th-12th place left the team without prize money.

Tour 3

DPC EEU 2021/2022 Tour 3: Division I Spirit was worthy. The club finished with a 6-1 record, the players only failed to cope with the Outsiders. Due to the fact that Team Spirit, NaVi and Outsiders had similar statistics in the standings, the teams were forced to play a tiebreaker. Team Spirit performed unsuccessfully and finished their participation in 3rd place, however, this was enough for a trip to PGL Arlington Major 2022. In addition, the players earned $27,000 and 200 DPC points.

At PGL Arlington Major 2022, Team Spirit received the coveted slot at The International 11. YATOROGOD and the team went through the group stage with a score of 3-3-1. Spirit lost only to Evil Geniuses. In the upper bracket, the future champions outplayed Outsiders and Team Aster, but the Chinese from PSG.LGD were too strong for them. But the team will still have the opportunity to recoup. In the finals of the losers' bracket, Team Spirit again defeated Team Aster and met in the grand final with PSG.LGD. The Chinese team looked weaker than Miposhka with his partners. Team Spirit became the champions of PGL Arlington Major 2022 with a score of 3:1. As a reward, the club received $200,000 and 820 DPC points, which was enough to take 3rd place in the DPC rankings.

Results in third-party tournaments

Team Spirit played only 2 non-ranking championships. 4th place at GAMERS GALAXY: Invitational Series Dubai 2022 brought in ~$21,797, but participation in Riyadh Masters 2022 was their biggest earning so far this year. The team reached the grand final of the LAN tournament in Saudi Arabia, but lost to PSG. LGD with a score of 0:2. The silver medal of the competition brought Team Spirit $750,000.

Current line-up

The team's roster hasn't changed since last season. The players have been playing together for quite a long time, most of them have been playing at the club since December 2020.

The roster of Team Spirit is shown below:

  • Yatoro
  • TORONTOTOKYO
  • collapse
  • Mira
  • Miposhka

Although the team sagged in terms of the quality of the game in the middle of the season, it still remains one of the favorites for the upcoming World Cup. They should be forcing OG and PSG.LGD to compete for The International title, barring any surprises. We previously wrote about how OG spent the 2022 gaming season.

Recall that The International 2022 will be held from October 15 to 30 this year in a LAN format. The venue will be Suntec Singapore and Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore. The top 20 teams from around the world will compete for the biggest prize pool of the year, which is determined by the sales of the Battle Pass 2022.
