Esports news Team Spirit

In brief:
Team Spirit is a multigaming organization from CIS. The tag Team Spirit is made up by rosters in such disciplines as Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Hearthstone.
Let us present the history of the Dota 2 subdivision.
First Appearance
Team Spirit firstly appeared on radars of the esports community at the end of 2015. In December, the organization signed a promising roster called CIS Rejects that consisted of:
- RAMZES666
- Iceberg
- AfterLife
- ALWAYSWANNAFLY
- Goblak
By the end of the year Spirit had participated in several tournaments. The team took 9th-16th place at BTS Europe #1, won ProDotA Cup Europe #1 and got to Top-4 at D2CL Christmas Charity Magic.
However, the team was going to face a big challenge later.
First Major and Search of an Optimal Roster
2016 gave a bumpy start for the team. The team took third place at UCC Hitbox Championship and managed to make it to The Shanghai Major 2016 after they placed second at the European qualifiers.
But later the team took 7th-12th place at StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 1 and 9th-10th place at MarsTV Dota 2 League 2015 Winter. However, in comparison to the performance at The Shanghai Major, those results were good.
In Shanghai Spirit got absolutely destroyed with the 13th-16th position. This result gave a start to changes in the roster. At first, the team dismissed RAMZES666 and AfterLife, and their slots were given to Funn1k and Illidan.
The renewed roster helped the club to get qualified for titled championships, however, Spirit was unable to do it. They failed the elimination stage of EPICENTER, StarLadder i-League Invitational Season 1, ESL One Frankfurt 2016, and The Manila Major 2016. After the streak of bad luck, the team was altered again: Illidan and ALWAYSWANNAFLY left the team, and their slot was taken by Ghostik and XBOCT. However, those replacements did not make any significant difference for the team’s results.
In May, the team again failed several qualifying tournaments including The Summit 5, StarLadder i-League StarSeries Season 2 and Nanyang Dota 2 Championship Season 2. In the same year, Team Spirit could not make it to the closed qualifiers to The International, so the management decided to decline the services of their roster.
The new roster of Spirit was announced in December. It included Bzz, iceberg, DkPhobos, fng, and Vanskor.
The new season started with third place at Dota 2 Asia Championships 2017 CIS Qualifier, and continued with 9th-16th place at Dota 2 Champions League Season 10 and fourth place at The Kiev Major 2017: CIS Qualifier.
Later Spirit had a good series of performances when they won the qualifiers for Russian Esports Cup 2017, OverPower Cup #1 and WellPlay Invitational #7. Then Spirit took second place at Dota 2 Champions League Season 11 and third place at ProDotA Cup Europe #16. But the team could not make it to big tournaments. The roster failed the qualifiers for ZOTAC Cup Masters and DreamLeague Season 7.
Also Spirit stopped one step away from StarLadder i-League Invitational #2 and entered Top-4 at the qualifiers for DOTA Summit 7.
In May, the team took third place at Russian Esports Cup 2017 and second place at the qualifiers for The International 2017. After the bitter outcome, the team joined the leaders at Russian Esports Cup 2017 taking the third position there but consequently changed the roster again.
Bzz and VANSKOR left the team giving their slots away to Biver and iLTW. However, the changes in the roster did not lead to the desired results, so they decided to have another replacement by the end of the season: iceberg left and Illidan returned to the roster.
Season 2018-2019
Spirit’s next season started with elimination tournaments. However, the players from Spirit again were not ready to pass the qualifiers for such tournaments like GESC: Indonesia Dota2 Minor, ESL One Katowice 2018 and The Bucharest Major. Those performances gave a start to new changes. The team dismissed iLTW, and his slot was given to G. The slightly altered roster took third place at Galaxy Battles II: Emerging Worlds, after that they again set out to conquer the qualifiers.
The team participated in a series of qualifying tournaments that brought the team second place at Dota 2 Asia Championships 2018 – CIS Qualifier, MDL Changsha Major: CIS Qualifier, GESC: Thailand Dota2 Minor – CIS Qualifier.
The players managed to break the streak of unsuccessful attempts at the qualifiers for China Dota2 Supermajor: CIS Qualifier where Spirit became the winner. After that the team took part in another prestigious tournament – ESL One Birmingham 2018.
At ESL One Birmingham 2018, Team Spirit took 7th-9th place and the results at China Dota2 Supermajor were much worse – 13th-16th place.
After the performance at major tournaments, Spirit proceeded to the closed qualifiers for The International 2018, however, the team took third place there. After the bad luck at the elimination stage, the roster dismissed DkPhobos and Illidan.
Team Spirit played with stand-ins for some time as they were trying to find optimal gaming but all their attempts were in vain.
In September, Spirit announced a new roster. It consisted of oliver, Nine, HesteJoe-Rotten, Biver, and fng. Team Spirit’s renewed roster managed to win several championships by the end of the year. Those included Cryptomasters, Autumn Cup and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Summit! However, the next season brought Spirit new problems.
The team took 9th-12th place at WePlay! Dota 2 Winter Madness and 7th-8th place at LOOT.BET Winter Masters. Those championships resulted in disbanding the European roster.
Spirit presented a new roster in May 2019 signing Old But Gold. It was made up by Illidan, G, 633, velheor, and Vanskor. However, Spirit held their roster till August and later it was disbanded again after they had failed the elimination stage of The International.
Instead of the former players, Spirit welcomed Positive Guys: iLTW, Ergon, Ghostik, Immersion, Misha. By the end of the year the new roster had managed to take second place at Parimatch League Season 1 Round Robin, 13th-16th place at MDL Chengu Major and fourth place at Parimatch League Season 1.
At the end of the season, the team lost Ghostik, and his slot was given to nongrata.
2020 and Online Period
At the beginning of the year, Team Spirit took 5th-6th place at WePlay! Bukovel Minor 2020 and failed the qualifiers for ESL One Los Angeles 2020 CIS Closed Qualifier. Later there were several reshuffles in the team and, as a result, nongrata and iLTW left the roster. They were replaced by AfterLife and DyrachYO. Later AfterLife was replaced by Immersion, and DyrachYO left for Gambit.
By the end of the season, Spirit signed a roster of Yellow Submarine that was made up by:
- Yatoro
- TORONTOTOKYO
- Collapse

- Miposhka
Spirit’s renewed roster managed to win BTS Pro Series Season 4: Europe/CIS.
