The Counter-Strike 2 festivities are heating up. The battles continue on our screens in the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024, where the Legends Stage is already being played. Here 16 of the best teams in the world are fighting for 8 tickets to the play-offs of the championship according to the Swiss system.

Among the contenders for the play-offs are place and G2 Esports with Cloud9. Both of these teams are currently 1-1, which is not bad. But only until that 1-1 turns into a 1-2 for one of the sides. That's where the trouble starts.

Let's try to figure out who will be stronger in the upcoming confrontation and will significantly improve their chances to qualify for the CS 2 Major Copenhagen 2024 play-offs, and who will be one step away from the first championship in the history of CS2.

G2 Esports uniforms

We open the match analysis with an analysis of G2 Esports play-offs. In this match of The International, the Samurai's international roster is playing first, and the odds on them winning this match are at around 1.7.

G2 Esports have been on the podiums of major championships for almost all of last year. Their rise as a top team started with BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2023 and IEM Katowice 2023. Both championships G2 passed confidently and at two tournaments they deservedly became champions.

Next, the "samurai" were stormy. Last season ESL Pro League Season 17 G2 Esports finished on the 9-12 line, which is clearly not the level of the team that recently won Katowice 2023.

After a frankly weak performance at EPL Season 17 G2 Esports played at BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023. In Paris, NiKo and company had a real fiasco, as the tournament for them ended at the TOP-14 stage, which certainly did not fit into G2's plans.

Before ESL Pro League Season 18, G2 Esports made their mark on several other major tournaments. These were BLAST Premier: Spring Finals and Fall Groups, where G2 took top 4 and top 8 respectively.

Next up was IEM Cologne 2023 and finally a win. In the Grand Final they beat ENCE 3-1, thus taking another IEM title for the year.

The last championship was Gamers8. The biggest commercial tournament of the season ended with G2 Esports in the top 4.

G2 Esports started off ESL Pro League Season 18 with a betting tirerable win. They beat Lynn Vision 2-0 in their opening match, but to be fair, they were close to a fiasco on the first map. However, G2 Esports subsequently made it to the play-offs, and straight into the quarter-finals, where they met MOUZ. The Mice outplayed G2 Esports and later became EPL S18 champions.

G2 Esports attended two more events before competing at BLAST Premier: World Finals 2023. These were BLAST Premier: Fall European Showdown 2023 and IEM Sydney 2023. Both tournaments saw the team finish in the Top 4 stage. There was also CCT Online Finals #5, where G2 showed a frankly mediocre result. The titular European club failed to make it to the top 2 and get a slot to the Global Finals, and settled for only the top 4.

Prior to the PGL CS 2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Europe RMR G2 Esports played at three top tournaments before the Long Convergence PGL CS 2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Europe RMR G2 Esports. BLAST Premier: World Final 2023, BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2024 and IEM Katowice 2024 and they finished in the top 6. Looks good, but it's still not the same for the G2 Esports level.

Then PGL Major Copenhagen 2024: European RMR A G2 Esports played at their level. The level you expect from them - that is, top 2 and a slot in the Copenhagen CS2 Major Legends.

C9 had a pretty busy 2023 season. "Cloudy" celebrated a passage to the grand finals of ESL Pro League Season 17 and a victory at BLAST Premier: Spring European Showdown 2022.

In addition, the team won the commercial BB Playlist. Urbanistic. In April, C9 seriously stumbled: they lost two qualifications at BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 and missed the only Major of the season.

Before Gamers8 Cloud9 attended another major summer tournament - IEM Cologne 2023. The most prestigious event went well for Cloud9: not good, but not bad either.

A very difficult Long Corner in Cologne forced Cloud9 to mobilise all their resources in order not to drop out at the group stages, and these resources were enough until the first round of play-offs, where C9 were defeated by Vitality.

Next, C9 visited Gamers8, but even there everything was not so good. At the TOP-8 stage the team faced ENCE, and they were unable to do anything against the overclocked Finns. And that's how they ended up in the TOP-8.

In their debut match at EPL Season 18, Cloud9 played against Eternal Fire. The Turks, being a cheerful team on paper, failed to outplay C9 at least on one of the cards: the match ended with the score 2-0 (16-11 Vertigo, 16-12 Eternal Fire).

In the play-offs match C9 faced Complexity. Being the absolute favourite of the match, Cloud9 failed to give CoL a fight and lost 0-2.

Cloud9's failures didn't end there. After getting into the net of the last chance of EPL Season 18, Cloud9 lost 1-2 to Liquid in a rather lacklustre manner, thus failing to qualify for the play-offs of the prestigious tournament. At the end of EPL S18, C9 finished in the top 20, which, to put it mildly, is weak for a top-tier team, which C9 was labelled as by literally everyone.

However, before the IEM Sydney IEM Long Convergence, C9 managed to rehabilitate themselves a bit for their mediocre performance at the last TOP tournaments. C9 won the BLAST Premier: Fall European Showdown 2023, earning them a slot at the BLAST Autumn Finals.

Before competing at Thunderpick World Championship 2023, Cloud9 made an appearance at IEM Sydney 2023. It wasn't great there, as C9 failed to make it past the group stage, crashing out after losing to Complexity.

Thunderpick World Championship 2023 was C9's first tournament with BoombI4 officially as captain. It worked out pretty well: Cloud9 made it to the play-offs of the tournament and finished in the top 4, losing in the semi-finals to the future champions from FaZe with a 1-2 score.

At the end of the last season C9 played two BLAST tournaments. It was the BLAST Premier Fall Final 2023 followed by a top-4 and top-6 finish at BLAST Premier: World Finals 2024.

BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2024 Cloudy started off with a win over Heroic. However, a very easy 2-0 against the Danish Club prevented a repeat of their success against Vp. "Brothers in Spirit" proved to be stronger on three maps and closed the series with a 2-1 score, sending C9 to the bottom set. From there, C9 couldn't swim away: a 0-2 loss to BIG, which ultimately led Cloudy to the Top 12.

After failing at BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2024, C9 played even worse at IEM Katowice 2024. In Poland, they finished in the top 16.

At PGL CS2 Copenhagen Major 2024: European RMR B Cloud9 started off with an easy win against Pera (13-3), but then had a tough time against Apeks (13-10). However, the success continued onwards, allowing them to go directly to the Major itself, but in the Opening Stage.

In the Opening Stage CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 C9 did well, although not without problems. Cloud9 started the PGL CS 2 Major Copenhagen 2024 with a loss to FURIA, and then beat ECSTATIC, which gave them a 1-1 lead.

The best map of C9 is Vertigo. It has 2 wins in 3 matches.

Next is Inferno. On Inferno Cloud9 played 5 times, out of which they won 3 matches.

Minus winrate on 4 maps: Ancient (42% wins in 7 matches), Overpass (33% wins in 3 matches), Anubis (3 matches, 33% wins), Mirage (2 matches, 0 wins).
