Hands in group D at ESL Pro League Season 16 before the last round

Add as a Preferred Source

The fate of Group D will be decided today as part of the ESL Pro League Season 16. At least one issue was dealt with by the teams on their own, having crowned Cloud9 following the results of the previous four rounds. However, a serious struggle will unfold for the two remaining spots in the playoffs, since four teams at once claim to get into the TOP-3.

In addition, the Movistar Riders team definitely fell out of this fight, which until that moment had suffered four defeats and lost the chance to get into the playoffs of the competition. However, FURIA , Team Liquid , Evil Geniuses and Eternal Fire will be fighting for points and the right to stay in Malta. In this regard, we propose to present possible handouts based on the results of the last matches of Group D at ESL Pro League Season 16.

No intrigue - Cloud9 definitely goes to the quarterfinals

With the winner of group D, it's clear - Cloud9 has won four wins so far, thanks to which it secured the first line in the sextet and guaranteed a direct hit in the 1/4 finals of the tournament. At the same time, the last meeting of the team will reveal other cards, in particular, the future of Team Liquid in the championship.

We deal with the main intrigue: the struggle for getting into the TOP-3 of group D

We propose to analyze all possible scenarios in group D, which will be decisive in determining the last participants in the playoffs:

  1. Cloud9 > Team Liquid; FURIA > Evil Geniuses; Eternal Fire > Movistar Riders = Cloud9 (1st place), FURIA (2nd place), Third place will be determined based on the number of maps/or rounds won, depending on the situation. Thus, the third playoff participant will be determined directly by the results of the fifth round and the number of maps won by the teams
  2. Cloud9 > Team Liquid; FURIA > Evil Geniuses; Eternal Fire < Movistar Riders = Cloud9 (1st), FURIA (2nd), Team Liquid (3rd)
  3. Cloud9 > Team Liquid; FURIA < Evil Geniuses; Eternal Fire > Movistar Riders = Cloud9 (1st), Evil Geniuses (2nd), FURIA (3rd)
  4. Cloud9 > Team Liquid; FURIA < Evil Geniuses; Eternal Fire < Movistar Riders = Cloud9 (1st), Evil Geniuses (2nd), FURIA (3rd)
  5. Cloud9 < Team Liquid; FURIA > Evil Geniuses; Eternal Fire > Movistar Riders = Cloud9 (1st), FURIA (2nd), Team Liquid (3rd)
  6. Cloud9 < Team Liquid; FURIA < Evil Geniuses; Eternal Fire > Movistar Riders = Cloud9 (1st place), Team Liquid (2nd place), Third place will be determined by additional indicators (FURIA or Evil Geniuses)
  7. Cloud9 < Team Liquid; FURIA < Evil Geniuses; Eternal Fire < Movistar Riders = Cloud9 (1st place), Team Liquid (2nd place), Third place will be determined by additional indicators (FURIA or Evil Geniuses)
  8. Cloud9 < Team Liquid; FURIA > Evil Geniuses; Eternal Fire < Movistar Riders = Cloud9 (1st), FURIA (2nd), Team Liquid (3rd)

ESL Pro League Season 16 runs from August 31st to October 2nd in Malta at the Salini Resort. 24 teams from Europe, CIS, North and South America compete for a total prize pool of $835,000. The winner of the tournament will receive the main prize of $175,000, as well as tickets to BLAST Premier: World Final 2022 and IEM Katowice 2023.
