Review of cs_summit 5
Ihor MatusDisappointing teams
MIBR
This championship was pretty predictable by many parameters and one of the most expected unexpected turns was the result of the Brazilian team. FalleN and his teammates showed a rather poor game during the whole championship and could not earn any win at any meeting. The matches ended up with either draws or losses for the Brazilians and, as a result, MIBR took the last position in the group stage and the whole tournament bracket. The team’s efforts brought the players a consolation prize of $4,500. Despite our expectations, MIBR failed to make it out of the group and instead of the supposed 3-4 place, the players took the sixth position.
Surprising teams
Virtus.pro
We treated Virtus.pro’s success at this championship rather skeptically. It was so skeptical that we even did not believe they could pass to the playoff. Nevertheless, VP managed to show us pretty good results and thanks to the four matches that ended up with draws, the team left FURIA and MIBR behind in the tournament bracket and made it to the final stage. There the Polish, of course, could not beat G2 Esports at the semifinal but could show a good opposition finishing the meeting with the score 1-2.
OG
Taking into account that it was the first LAN championship the new OG’s stack participated in, the result can be considered more or less satisfactory. The team managed to beat two Brazilian rosters FURIA and MIBR, had draws with G2 and Virtus.pro and lost the meeting with mousesports, the main favorite. Having made it to the semifinal, OG had to fight with mousesports again and having won only one map at the match against them, the lost 1-2. In total, OG’s performance is to be called good, and there is nothing to be ashamed of when we analyze the players’ loss at the battle with mouze, as these players are in a great gaming shape and win the third tournament in a row.
Rosters that performed on their level
FURIA Esports
In our preview, we said that we think that FURIA Esports is the main outsider and we were not out of pocket. After they got ableJ benched, their game did not improve and the Brazilians lost this championship as a natural result. At the group stage, the team managed to get only one win at the battle with MIBR who arrived at the tournament being fully unprepared. At the match with Virtus.pro, they had a draw, and lost against the rest of the teams. And they could not make it to the playoff. The fifth place resulted in a monetary reward of $4,500 for the team. Perhaps, next time will be more successful for the team, but they played poorly at cs_summit 5.
G2 Esports
G2 Esports came to the championship as one of the favorites. In our opinion, they had more chances to win than mousesports, as the latter had a substitute and could be tired of LAN tournaments. At the group stage, G2 did not make us disappointed and got to the top of their group. They beat FURIA and VP, played a draw with MIBR and OG, and got defeated by mousesports. At the playoff, they removed Virtus.pro from their way and tried to win a re-match with mouze fruitlessly. The second place brought the European team a monetary award of $39,500.
mousesports
We knew that mousesports would make it to the playoff and expected that they would make it to the grand final but did not think that their last battle would end up with a win for them. If we take into account the fact that at the final mouze were playing with two substitutes, the magnitude of the unexpectedness of their triumph is twice increased. Initially, the team was going to the championship with one substitute. NaToSaphiX went to the event instead of woxic who had failed to get a visa. The Danish player is a free agent now. At the last battle on the second and third maps, the captain of the team Finn ‘Karrigan’ Andersen could not take part in the game as well. The task to supply the fighting power was given to Allan ‘Rejin’ Petersen who usually sits on the coach seat. The first attempt to play with Rejin was quite failing and mouze lost the second map with 16-1. Considering the fact that the first map also finished with 19-17 for ropz and his teammates, our confidence in mouze was decreasing. Nevertheless, the 3 map helped the players to find the necessary synergy and surprise everybody including their teammates, fans and themselves. In the end, Train ended up with 16-14 for the players. This is their best map for a reason.
Mousesports is really one of the strongest CS:GO teams nowadays, as to win a $150,000 tournament with two substitutes is not easy for anyone. Let’s mark the fact that the players were talking about the low priority of cs_summit 5 for them. They are preparing for EPICENTER 2019 more. If they won three tournaments in a row including one with two substitutes, how will they perform at the one they are preparing for?
