Review of cs_summit 4
Ihor MatusDisappointing teams
Renegades
The Australian haven’t shown good results for some time but a few people expected the last place from them. The reason is the players from Ghost Gaming who hold the 26 position in the world rating. They were to take the last place while Renegades could get placed on the 4 position. In the end, the Australian lost the match against Ghost, Team Liquid, and NRG Esports, and also they played with a draw with ENCE and Team Vitality. Due to that they took the last place at this championship and got a money reward of $3,000.
ENCE
The Finnish team also disappointed spectators a little. Pretty strong teams took part in the championship, but many viewers including us expected to see at the final Team Liquid and ENCE, but not Vitality. ENCE performed in a rather interesting way: the team didn’t get either win or loss. All the meetings of the Finnish resulted in a draw and it let ENCE make it to the playoff. But there they were not able to win over the players of Team Vitality, leaving them behind by the score of 1-2. We should also mark that the semifinal series between the French and the Finnish ended up with a map that was led to overtime and in the end it was completed by the score of 19-15 for Vitality. The Finnish roster were really close to the victory. Probably, at the upcoming championship ENCE will perform much better but at cs_summit 4 they were really unlucky and they took the 4 place which resulted in $20,000 for the team.
Teams that performed as it had been expected
Ghost Gaming
Ghost Gaming didn’t make it to the final stage as it had been expected. They even managed to win over the players from Renegades. The American lost the battle with Liquid, NRG and Vitality, and also they were fighting with ENCE worthily. In the end, the meeting resulted in a draw. It helped the team to get placed at the 5 position and to earn $1,500 more than Renegades, which is $4,500. Despite the fact that Ghost performed better than it had been expected, the result was rather middling.
NRG Esports
At the group stage NRG Esports won over two outsiders of the tournament: Renegades and Ghost Gaming. At the battle with Vitality they were not able to defeat their opponents and at the battle with Liquid and ENCE they finished the series by the score of 1-1. NRG made it to the playoff as it had been expected and lost the match for getting to the grand final which was held with the main favorite, Team Liquid. NRG Esports took the 3 place and got a money reward of $21,500.
Team Liquid
Team Liquid performed in the group stage in the same way as NRG Esports. They won over Ghost and Renegades, lost a battle with Vitality and had a draw with ENCE. As for NRG, this meeting ended up by the score of 1-1. At the playoff Liquid met with NRG again where they did their best to win over the players from NRG. At the final stage with Team Vitality, the majority of viewers bet on Liquid, as this very roster was considered to be the main favorite, however everything went in the way at hadn’t been expected and in the end the Americans lost by the score of 0-2. Their efforts resulted in a money reward of $36,500 for Team Liquid. The players are likely to show the lesson they learnt at the upcoming DreamHack Masters Dallas 2019 and will perform much better, however at this championship they became the silver finalists which was natural for them. Liquid are known for their tendency of being one step away from their success and cs_summit 4 proved that the American had a status “Silver fans” one more time.
Tournament participant that surpassed the expectations
Team Vitality
Team Vitality weren’t outsiders of the event but a few people expected that they would win. The team claimed that they had prepared for cs_summit 4 well when they ended up their participation in the group stage on the first place. NBK- with his teammates managed to win over such opponents as Ghost, Liquid, and NRG. At the battle with ENCE and Renegades the French played with a draw and thanks to eight maps they managed to win, the gained extra funds of $12,000.
Having made it to the playoff, Vitality managed to play with the strongest opponent on their way that was ENCE. The first map was taken by allu and his teammates but the French didn’t give up and take the second map. On the third battle field, the meeting was rather intense and even reached overtime. On Inferno the teams were fighting as they could but Vitality managed to make it to the grand final after defeating ENCE by the score of 19-15.
At the final battle Vitality faced with Team Liquid that approached the championship being the main favorit. Vitality demolished Liquid on Nuke easily leaving only nine rounds to their opponents. A more cruel battle happened on Overpass. There Team Liquid were close to become winners leaving the French without 13 rounds. Nevertheless, in the end Team Vitality managed to complete what they started and finished the grand final in two maps and became champions of cs_summit 4. Their efforts resulted in a money prize of $64,000 and the French esportsman ZywOo, many viewers liked, was acknowledged as the most valuable player of the championship. He completed their way in the tournament with the rating 1.33 and gained his first trophy and immediately gained the MVP status that brought a lot of joy to Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut. This fact proves that the French is a really good individual performer and having unlocked his potential, he will be able to lead Team Vitality to a new game level.
