Brazilian teams lose: how was the first round of IEM Rio Major 2022 Challengers Stage

The first round of IEM Rio Major 2022 Challengers Stage has come to an end, as a result of which all Latin American teams were defeated and disappointed local fans. At the same time, the teams OG, Team Vitality, Evil Geniuses, BIG, Bad News Eagles, MOUZ, GamerLegion and fnatic managed to hold on at the start, becoming the nominal leader of the bracket. Well, we propose to sum up the results of the last round and present an interim table.

First round of IEM Rio Major 2022 Challengers Stage

The starting round of the entire major started with two confident victories by GamerLegion and MOUZ, who turned out to be stronger than 9z (16:6) and Outsiders (16:6), and on the same map — Inferno. Then the Bad News Eagles team entered the game, which devastatingly upset 00NATION (16:3). At the same time, OG managed to crush Grayhound Gaming (16:5) on the same Inferno map.

In the next portion of matches, the BIG team outplayed FURIA (19:16), just as Evil Geniuses defeated the Mongols from IHC Esports (16:9). Already at the very end of the first round, the Vitality team finished with Imperial Esports (16:9), while fnatic got a tough victory over Cloud9 (19:17).

IEM Rio Major 2022 takes place from October 31 to November 13 in Brazil at the Jeunesse Arena and at the Riocentro convention center. As part of the championship, 24 teams from the CIS, Europe, North and South America, and Asia are fighting for a total prize pool of $1,250,000, ranking points in the BLAST Premier table, as well as tickets to BLAST Premier: World Final 2022 and IEM Katowice 2023 for the winner.
