ESL explains round replay in Outsiders match - fnatic

The ESL tournament operator explained the replay of the first map round of the Overpass match between the Outsiders and fnatic teams. Recall that in the sixth round after the bomb was planted, all fnatic players simultaneously disconnected from the server due to technical problems. While the players of the Outsiders successfully retaken, the organizers allowed the teams to replay the round, which, however, again remained with the "honey badgers".

In a match between fnatic and the Outsiders, five fnatic players went offline at the same time due to a power issue on their network. The decision to restart the match was made based on section "2.10.3 Match Interruptions" in the IEM Rio Major 2022 Rulebook, which can be found on the website. The applicable rule states that: "If a problem occurs during a round, after damage has been dealt, and the outcome of the round cannot be determined (e.g. due to a server crash), the match should be rolled back to the start of the round."

This is different from the solution used in matches where players such as sh1ro, F1KU are eliminated during the round. The rule used in these cases where one player has disconnected is that: "If the problem occurs during the round and after the damage has been dealt, and the outcome of the round can still be determined (e.g. one player disconnected but the others remained), then the round will not be replayed or reinstated The round will continue and be scored Special exceptions may be made if the damage dealt was considered minor, such as accidental damage dealt by a teammate at the start of the round, or if the damage was dealt by a team affected by a glitch on server".

This incident attracted the attention of OG players, who in their social networks attacked the organizers of the championship. In particular, degster reproached ESL for double standards, since the tournament operator did not allow his team to replay the round earlier, and also did not go forward in a similar situation. The conversation was joined by nexa, who also remained at a loss about this ESL decision.

However, as it turned out, there is a subsection in the rules that governs situations like the one that happened in the sixth round of the Outsiders-fnatic match. So, melting allows you to replay the round if the malfunction happened to several players at the same time and directly affected the outcome of the round.

However, this incident did not affect the outcome of the Overpass map, which ended with a score of 16:1 in favor of the Outsiders. Moreover, fnatic lost the series with a score of 0:2 and went to the fifth round of IEM Rio Major 2022 Challengers Stage.
