There Was a Big Upset at the Intel Extreme Masters Rio Major 2022!

The Intel Extreme Masters Rio Major 2022 has just finished and what a tournament it was! This elite event had a 7 figure and the Jeunesse Arena in Rio De Janeiro had an electric atmosphere thanks to a sell-out crowd. And even more streamed the event at https://gg.bet/de/counter-strike. To the shock of all CS:GO fans around the world both FaZe Clan and Natus Vincere had a terrible tournament and Outsiders came out on top and walked away with $500,000 in cash. This event was one of the best CS:GO tournaments of the year and shook up the CS:GO team rankings!

What Happened to FaZe Clan at the Intel Extreme Masters Rio Major 2022

Everyone expected FaZe Clan to show up to the Intel Extreme Masters Rio Major 2022 and dominate. The American team was on absolute fire after winning over $1 million from 2022 tournaments. They were clearly the best team going into the Rio Major.

In a shocking twist, FaZe Clan did not progress to the playoffs. They lost all of their group-stage matches and were immediately kicked out of the tournament. They lost to Cloud9, Team Vitality, and Bad News Eagles. FaZe Clan was the favorite against every one of these teams but it didn’t matter as they were simply outclassed!

Natus Vincere Also Struggled to Perform

The second-best team in the tournament was Natus Vincere! The Ukrainian team was on fire in 2022 and had some massive tournaments including the BLAST Premier: Spring Finals 2022 for $200,000.

Unfortunately, for the Ukrainians, their form was up and down during the group stage. They managed to beat Team Vitality but then lost two matches on the trot to Cloud9 and Team Liquid. And finished with 2 wins against Bad News Eagles and BIG. They ended up coming 7th in the group and they just squeezed into the playoffs.

Many fans expected Natus Vincere to refocus in the playoffs and make a deep run. However, in their first match, they came up against a strong Furia Esports squad. They ended up losing 2-1 and before anyone could understand what happened NaVi was gone!

Outsiders Are the Champions!

Outsiders, a Russian team previously called Virtus.pro were once one of the most feared teams on the CS:GO circuit. However, after being forced to relocate and change their name due to Russian teams being sanctioned following the war in Ukraine they struggled to find their previous form.

At the Intel Extreme Masters Rio Major 2022, they started in the qualifying stage where they proved their class achieving a 3-1 record and crushing solid teams like Fnatic. They then progressed to the Legends Group Stage where they looked like world beaters and easily crushed Team Spirit and Ninjas in Pyjamas.

During the playoffs, Outsiders soared past Fnatic, and MOUZ set up a Grand Final battle against Heroic. Outsiders were too clutch for Heroic and scooped the $500,000 first-place prize!
