IEM Atlanta 2026 takes place May 11–17 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Sixteen teams will compete for a $1,000,000 prize pool, with $300,000 distributed among participants and $700,000 allocated to organizational costs. The winner walks away with $295,000, of which $125,000 goes directly to the players.

The group stage splits the sixteen teams into two groups of eight, each played in GSL format (double-elimination). All group stage matches are Bo3. Three teams advance from each group to the playoffs: the group winner goes straight to the Semifinals, the runner-up enters the Quarterfinals as the High Seed, and third place enters as the Low Seed. The gap between second and third in the group matters more than it might look — the High Seed draws a more favorable bracket, while the Low Seed can run into one of the tournament favorites right away. That means teams will keep fighting for position even after securing their spot in the playoff.

The playoff runs as a Single-Elimination bracket. All matches up to the Grand Final are Bo3, with the Grand Final itself played as a Bo5. No second chances, no safety net — one loss and the tournament is over.

There is a second storyline running alongside the competition. IEM Atlanta opens the race for ESL Grand Slam VII, meaning the stakes here go beyond a single event. For context, Grand Slam VI went to Team Vitality following their victory at IEM Rio 2026 earlier this year.

Vitality arriving in Atlanta in this form makes them the clear favorite. A team that just closed out one Grand Slam cycle is now entering the next one with an obvious intention — keep going. Sustaining that kind of momentum is difficult, but Rio showed what this roster is capable of at its best. Opponents will need to bring something concrete rather than waiting around for Vitality to slip.

IEM Atlanta has always attracted a strong field, and this year is unlikely to be any different. The two-group format gives teams room to calculate their path to the playoff, but GSL leaves no margin for losing streaks — two consecutive losses mean elimination. For the favorites, that is reason enough to take the group stage seriously from day one.
