LPL Summer Split 2022 is about to start!

Add as a Preferred Source

Welcome to the first of the continental League of Legends tournaments in the summer of 2022! As always, China goes first. And no wonder, because it was here that as many as 17 teams gathered, unlike the classic 10 slots in other regions.

What is waiting for us?

The total prize pool of the tournament will be ¥4,200,000 CNY (≃ $658,443 USD) and the main prize will be almost half of the total amount of ¥2,000,000 (≃ $313,544 USD). Everything is the same as at LPL Spring 2022. But the main difference will be that the winner of the region will receive not only the amount, but also the opportunity to go to Worlds 2022, while at the last split, a ticket was issued to the less significant Mid-Season Invitational 2022, which is completely ended recently.

By the way, both past tournaments, LPL Spring 2022 and MSI 2022, were taken by the Chinese team under the RNG tag, in a close fight with T1.

And unlike at the beginning of the season, there were far fewer reshuffles between the two splits among Chinese players and LPL rosters. Therefore, the approximate strength and capabilities of the teams feel much better than in the spring.

A little about the formalities and rules

As with each of the splits, everything will start with a group stage. It will be held in two stages, with a break in the middle. This time, 10 weeks will be allocated for it. There will be no order in terms of the number of matches, and we will encounter situations where 6 matches will be played in one week, and all 15 in another, as far as the teams can. All matches will be held in Bo3 format.

According to the results of the group stage, the top 10 teams by points will advance to the playoffs. 7th - 10th places in the first round, 5th and 6th in the second, 3rd and 4th in the last round of the playoffs, while 1st and 2nd places will immediately receive a place in the semi-finals. A classic double bracket, where until the semi-finals all matches will also be in Bo3, and starting from the decisive matches for reaching the final among the upper and lower brackets - Bo5.
