FURIA’s International Lineup Shows Progress in Hunt for First Trophy

FURIA went through a challenging path in 2024, but a real breakthrough only came after the roster changes in spring. The additions of YEKINDAR and the young Kazakh AWPer molodoy turned the Brazilian team into a dangerous contender: quarterfinals at two Majors and a rise to the top 5 in the world ranking within just a few months. Ahead lies the BLAST Open London 2025 Finals, where FURIA has the chance to claim their first big title with the international lineup.

What were FURIA’s achievements in 2024?

In 2024, the Brazilian squad showed average results. Although they managed to qualify for the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, the team finished 15-16th at the tournament. At Intel Extreme Masters Chengdu 2024, FURIA placed 9-12th. They earned silver at the tier-2 event CCT Season 2 European Series #4. At the second and last Major of the year, the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, FURIA ended in 9-11th place.

The 2025 season also started with failures. At Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2025, ESL Pro League Season 21, and BLAST Open Spring 2025, FURIA was eliminated in the early stages, mostly finishing in the 12-16th range.

Amid these struggles, in April the team decided to bench Marcelo " chelo " Cespedes, replacing him with the young Kazakh sniper Danil " molodoy " Golubenko. The next big step was sidelining Felipe " skullz " Medeiros and bringing in Latvian rifler Mareks " YEKINDAR " Gaļinskis as a stand-in until the end of the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025.

These changes came as a surprise to fans. For the first time in their history, FURIA moved away from their concept of a fully Brazilian roster and formed an international lineup, which, as it turned out later, improved the team’s results.

FURIA at BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025

The first big tournament for the renewed lineup was PGL Astana 2025, where the team reached the semifinals. In the semifinal match, they lost to Aurora Gaming 2-1 and finished 4th. Their next challenge was Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2025, where they placed 9-12th.

At the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, FURIA managed to reach the quarterfinals but fell in a tight 2-1 series against paiN Gaming. At Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2025, FURIA again reached the quarterfinals, where they lost 0-2 to MOUZ.

Did the international roster work?

Even though FURIA has yet to lift a trophy at a big event after signing the two young players, they showed clear improvement in their results. In just four months, the team climbed the HLTV ranking from 20th to 5th place. Up next is the BLAST Open London 2025 Finals, where FURIA already secured a semifinal spot and awaits the winner of the FaZe vs G2 matchup. If they can win that series, they have every chance to claim their first trophy with the new roster.
