IEM Rio 2024 Day 3: Short Preview and Schedule

IEM Rio 2024 continues to surprise, with the second day even more intriguing than the first. And of course, the main sensation of the day is G2's departure from the tournament. Recall that yesterday, Eternal Fire beat G2 with a 2-0 score. The 3rd day promises to be interesting, because today there are quite a lot of diverse and unique matches.

Let's take a look closer at today's matches

Virtus.pro - Astralis (16:00 CET)

The first match, two of the most unstable teams of the tournament from which it is not known what to expect. Virtus.pro knocked out 9z yesterday after losing one map, while Astralis suddenly lost in the Danish derby to Heroic. It's hard to say who is stronger in this pair, but partially we can favor Virtus.pro. Recently, VP has outplayed the Danes more often than not. Last time the two teams met at Blast Premier Spring Final 2024 and VP was the stronger team, winning 2-0. The transfer of cadiaN to Astralis has not yet brought any benefit to the team, he has played the last matches with negative stats, this could be a decisive factor in this match.

The MongolZ - Eternal Fire (16:00 CET)

One of the most interesting matches of the evening is EF vs Mongolz. Both teams are on the rise, both teams have been surprising lately and showing a confident game. It is also interesting to see who has the stronger T-Side in this match, as both teams like to play aggressively.

EF as we know managed to knock G2 out of the tournament, but Mongolz lost their last match to Vitality in a very close battle. Whether the young Mongolian warriors will be able to resist the experienced and hungry for victories Turks we will see today.

Vitality - Heroic (18:30 CET)

The next match will be a very difficult one for Heroic. Despite their dedication, Vitality is still stronger and Zywoo won't just give up the win and his stats prove his ambitions. It should also be noted that apeX has been playing very well in recent matches and this adds confidence to the French. Heroic is on a good run in this tournament, but whether they had the strength to do a tremendous job again and stupefy Vitality is still a mystery.

Furia - NaVi (18:30 CET)

NaVi vs Furia matches used to be considered some of the most worth watching, before the Brazilians lost focus and lost their competitiveness on the Tier-1 scene. Furia also shows great CS at this tournament, they play cohesively and try to make minimum mistakes.

Navi have already reached the finals 4 times recently and two of them managed to win, also they do not plan to give up and are motivated to win as never before. Recently, Furia has not beaten Navi even once. The last time the teams met was at ESWC 2024 and that time the Ukrainian team won effortlessly, 2-0. Most spectators have no doubts who will win today, but I wouldn't jump to conclusions given the way the Brazilians are playing in the current tournament.

Faze - MOUZ (21:00 CET)

And the last match is a duel between Faze and MOUZ in which the first team is predicted to win. Recently, Faze Clan has defeated MOUZ 14 times, which is a really dominant statistic, but at the moment both teams are going through a very strong slump and it's hard to be sure that Faze Clan will win again. Ropz is still dragging the team along with frozen, but will that be enough for the “mouses” to give up?

Also, in addition to the above-mentioned matches, there will be another duel for a direct passage to the quarterfinals, the teams involved will be determined later.
