LJL Spring 2022: Start Today!

Add as a Preferred Source

Today, in parallel with the split in Oceania and Vietnam, the Japanese A-tier League of Legends tournament: LJL Spring 2022 starts. The tournament was organized by Riot Games. The prize pool is approximately $86,227 USD, which will go all the way to 1st place.

Exactly a month ago, three spring splits started in the largest gaming regions: China with LPL Spring 2022, Korea with LCK Spring 2022 and Europe with LEC Spring 2022. During this time, we have already completed almost 4 gaming weeks.

Prize money

Eight teams from Japan will compete for a prize pool of $86,227 USD (¥10,000,000), and what's more, the winner will have the opportunity to compete in an international tournament held between splits.

  • First and only prize (according to liquipedia): ¥10,000,000 JPY and a place at the Mid-Season Invitational 2022.

Tournament Rules and Procedure

In this split, we will see an almost traditional group stage, during which each of the teams will play not 18 matches, as usual, but as many as 21. All matches will be in the Bo1 format, exactly the same as at the European LEC or PCS Spring 2022.

According to the results of the groups: the teams from the first to the sixth place will advance further and continue to compete for the main prize. And the two teams with the least points will leave LJL Spring 2022. Next, the time for the playoffs will come.

The group stage will take place not by weeks, as we are used to, but by days, from February 11 to May 25. There will be 21 game days in total, which means that each of the teams will take part in every day of the tournament. Obviously, they will not go in a row, but with breaks of 2-3 days between matches.

In the playoffs, absolutely all matches will be in the Bo5 format, just like with the losers bracket, that is, the classic Double Elimination system.
