We continue our look at the group stages of BLAST Premier Spring Final 2024. We are interested in Group B of The International.

One of the matches (of which there will be 2) is a match between Team Spirit and G2 Esports. And this, as far as I am concerned, will be much more interesting than the match Vitality - Vp.

Let's try to figure out who in the G2 Esports- - Team Spirit match will be the winner and move further up the grid, and who will have to continue playing in the lower part of the group stage.

Team Spirit uniforms

Let's open the Team Spirit vs G2 Esports match with an analysis of TS' form. In this match they will play as favourites, as they did in Dallas, in all matches where TS played.

The 2023 season has been quite eventful for Spirit. The Serbian club played wherever they could, but they failed to produce significant results almost anywhere.

They started the previous season with an appearance at IEM Master Katowice 2023, where they finished in the top 12. Then there was the local CCT Central Europe Malta Finals 2023, where they finished in the top 6.

One of the biggest tournaments of the 2023 season for Spirit was ESL Pro League Season 17, where the Dragons finished in TOP-28. They tried to make it to the Major in Paris, but again all in vain.

From the middle and up to the end of the year Spirit played at local events of small calibre. And they were quite successful, it is worth mentioning: TOP-1 at CCT North Europe Series #6, TOP-2 at CCT Online Finals #2, victory at Dunav Party LAN and Thunderpick World Championship 2023: European Series #2.

At the end of the year, they won the BB Dacha. In 2024, BLAST Premier: Spring Showdown 2024 was the first major event of the Dragons. Spirit played frankly poorly there: they finished in the top 16 at their debut BLAST Championship, advancing to the Spring Showdown.

At IEM Katowice 2024 Spirit started their performance at the Play-In stage. There they beat Apeks 13-0 without a chance, and then confidently (except for 2 maps) beat MongolZ 2-0, thus qualifying for the group stage. The group stage was not a problem for Spirit either: after giving up only 1 map to NaVi, they easily made it to the play-offs by beating CoL and FaZe Clan 2-0. The IEM Katowice 2024 play-offs confirmed Spirit's dominance, as they easily shut down Falcons (2-0) and it was even easier against FaZe in the grand finals (3-0).

After the triumph at Katowice 2024, Spirit made it to PGL CS2 Copenhagen Major 2024, where they managed to reach the play-offs, but Ledge and FaZe Clan in the first round of the main stage. In doing so, Spirit finished in the top 8.

Spirit had a kind of successful performance at BB Dacha, but a 0-3 loss to MOUZ in the grand finals spoilt things a bit.

At the IEM Dallas 2024 Team Spirit went through the group stage very easily, not giving up a single map in Basket B. But in the first play-offs match, which for TS was the semi-final, the Dragons lost 0-2.

The best map of Team Spirit is Vertigo, where the Brazilians have played 5 times and won 3 maps. Next comes Mirage, with 7 games and 4-3 statistics.

The neutral choice for Team Spirit will be Nuke and Ancient. The Brazilians have 6 maps there and the score is 3-3 on each.

The worst is Overpass (2-3) and Inferno (1-2).

G2 Esports uniforms

We continue the analysis of the match G2 Esports - Team Spirit with the analysis of G2's form. They will play as the number two, and with a serious underdog: the odds for G2 to win this match are at around 3.2.

G2 Esports has been on the podium of major championships for almost all of last year. Their rise as a top team started with BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2023 and IEM Katowice 2023. Both championships G2 passed confidently and at two tournaments they deservedly became champions.

Next, the "samurai" were stormy. Last season ESL Pro League Season 17 G2 Esports finished on the 9-12 line, which is clearly not the level of the team that recently won Katowice 2023.

After a frankly weak performance at EPL Season 17 G2 Esports played at BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023. In Paris, NiKo and company had a real fiasco, as the tournament for them ended at the TOP-14 stage, which certainly did not fit into G2's plans.

Before ESL Pro League Season 18, G2 Esports made their mark on several other major tournaments. These were BLAST Premier: Spring Finals and Fall Groups, where G2 took top 4 and top 8 respectively.

Next up was IEM Cologne 2023 and finally a win. In the Grand Final they beat ENCE 3-1, thus taking another IEM title for the year.

The last championship was Gamers8. The biggest commercial tournament of the season ended with G2 Esports in the top 4.

G2 Esports started off ESL Pro League Season 18 with a betting tirerable win. They beat Lynn Vision 2-0 in their opening match, but to be fair, they were close to a fiasco on the first map. However, G2 Esports subsequently advanced to the play-offs, and straight into the quarter-finals, where they met MOUZ. The Mice outplayed G2 Esports and later became EPL S18 champions.

G2 Esports attended two more events before competing at BLAST Premier: World Finals 2023. These were BLAST Premier: Fall European Showdown 2023 and IEM Sydney 2023. Both tournaments saw the team finish in the Top 4 stage. There was also CCT Online Finals #5, where G2 showed a frankly mediocre result. The titular European club failed to make it to the top 2 and get a slot to the Global Finals, and settled for only the top 4.

Prior to the PGL CS 2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Europe RMR G2 Esports played at three top tournaments before the Long Convergence PGL CS 2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Europe RMR G2 Esports. BLAST Premier: World Final 2023, BLAST Premier: Spring Groups 2024 and IEM Katowice 2024 and they finished in the top 6. Looks good, but it's still not the same for the G2 Esports level.

Then PGL Major Copenhagen 2024: European RMR A G2 Esports played at their level. The level that you expect from them, i.e. top 2 and a slot in the Copenhagen CS2 Major Legends.

Later G2 Esports played at the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen, where they managed to reach the play-offs and at the end of the championship took the top 4. In the semi-finals they lost to future champions NaVi.

G2 Esports played at IEM China 2024, where the "samurai" managed to reach the TOP-4. Later they played at ESL Pro League Season 19, where they reached TOP-8, Ledgeiv to the future champions from MOUZ.

IEM Dallas 2024 was unexpectedly successful for G2 Esports. After a very difficult group stage, the team made it to the grand finals and there they beat Team Vitality with a substitution.

G2's main map is Ancient. G2 played 8 matches there, out of which they won 6.

Then comes Anubis (3 games, 2 wins), Vertigo (5 matches, 3 wins), Inferno (12 matches, 58% wins).

G2 Esports has no minus winnings on mapx. Among the "worst" choices are Nuke (7 matches, 4 wins), Mirage (4 wins, 4 losses).

History of head-to-head meetings between Team Spirit and G2 Esports

The last time the teams played each other was back in 2022. So, the results of the past few days are not very interesting for us.

In this match my bet is on Team Spirit. The fact that G2 Esports won IEM Dallas 2024 looks like a fluke to me, and considering the factor of the victory with the replacement of the captain, I don't understand how HooXi will return to the team.

Bottom line: a Spirit win.
