
The MongolZ eliminate paiN from IEM Chengdu and advance to the Lower Bracket Final
The Brazilian squad paiN ends their run at IEM Chengdu 2025 after falling to The MongolZ with a 1–2 scoreline. Despite a confident start on Nuke, where paiN built an early lead, the Mongolian team managed to turn things around on Inferno and secure their spot in the Lower Bracket Final, where they will face Team Spirit. The standout player of the series was controlez, who posted a 1.24 rating and played a key role in The MongolZ’s victory.
Nuke (13:9 paiN)
Nuke began under the control of The MongolZ. Starting on the T side, they took a 4–0 lead, but paiN quickly found their rhythm and managed to pull ahead 7–5. In the second half, paiN regained control and built a solid defense to close out the map 13–9.
Ancient (13:6 The MongolZ)
On Ancient, The MongolZ looked far more dangerous. They dominated most of the first half on the T side, and although paiN tried to narrow the gap after the switch, they ultimately fell 6–13.
Inferno (16:13 The MongolZ)
The decider started perfectly for paiN, who took full control early on and raced to a 7–0 lead. It seemed like an easy win for the Brazilian team, but the second half turned out to be much closer. Both sides traded rounds back and forth, with paiN reaching match point first — only for The MongolZ to push the game into overtime. In the extra rounds, the Mongolians proved stronger, sealing the map 16–13 and the series.
Match MVP
The MVP of the match was controlez, a stand-in for The MongolZ. Throughout the entire series, he consistently delivered top-tier performances, finishing with an ADR of 86.6, Swing +2.52%, and a 1.24 rating.
For paiN, the tournament ends with a 9th–12th place finish, earning $5,000 for the team and $20,000 for the organization. The MongolZ move forward to the Lower Bracket Final, where they’ll face Team Spirit. IEM Chengdu runs from November 3–9, featuring a total prize pool of $1,000,000 — with $300,000 distributed among the teams and an additional $700,000 allocated to the organizations.
