Today, October 3, the final round of the IEM Fall 2021 Europe group stage will take place. At the same time, out of all the groups, only three teams guaranteed places in the playoffs - NIP, Astralis and Copenhagen Flames. In all other cases, there are several options for the development of events, with which you should get acquainted.
Out of the top six, only Copenhagen Flames guaranteed a place in the playoffs, which, even with a defeat to BIG in the last round, will still take first place thanks to a victory over G2.
Two teams continue to fight for the second place - G2 and mousesports. It is these teams that will meet in the fifth round of IEM Fall 2021 Europe to determine the strongest. If mousesports wins, G2 will drop to third place. In turn, the defeat of mousesports will put the team in a quandary.
It is for the third place, which guarantees a ticket to the Play-In, that the main struggle will unfold. In this case, there are several scenarios:
- Mousesports' victory over G2 = G2 takes 3rd place.
- Defeat mousesports, Defeat BIG, Defeat FunPlus Phoenix = mousesports takes 3rd place.
- Defeat mousesports, defeat BIG, win FunPlus Phoenix = replay for 3rd place.
It is interesting that AURA, which did not score a single point by the fifth round, can still rise one step higher. To do this, the Swedish team just need to beat FunPlus Phoenix, then AURA will take 5th place, ahead of the rival in personal meetings.
Astralis has nothing to prevent from reaching the playoffs. At the same time, in the last round, the final place of the Danes in the group will only be determined, since, in case of defeat by Sinners, Astralis will drop to the second line, taking into account personal meetings.
For Sinners, the situation is more complicated. In case of defeat to Astralis, as well as victories of Heroic and Movistar Riders, the Czech team will be obliged to play a series of tiebreaks, playing places from 2nd to 4th. At the same time, if Sinners beat Astralis in the final round, they will advance to the IEM Fall 2021 Europe playoffs from the first place.
The victory over Complexity and the defeat of Sinners are not enough to reach the playoffs of Heroic, since the Danes lose to the Czech team in personal meetings. Therefore, the only possible option for the Danes to enter the playoffs will be the situation described above.
Movistar Riders could theoretically still take second place in the group if Sinners lose to Astralis, and Heroic, in turn, fails to cope with Complexity. Then the Spanish team will be higher than Sinners in personal meetings and will take second place.
Interestingly, Complexity has not yet lost the chances of RMR points. However, the team will definitely not jump higher than third place. At the same time, in order to break into third place, the team needs the following conditions: Victory over Heroic in the last round, defeat of Movistar Riders from Endpoint. In this case, the teams will play a series of tiebreaks for the 3rd place.
The most interesting group from the point of view of the denouement, since no team has yet guaranteed a place in the playoffs. At the moment, OG, ENCE and Vitality have nine points each, as well as a situation in which the teams risk playing a series of tiebreaks. To do this, the teams just need to beat MAD Lions, Sprout and Dignitas in the fifth round, respectively.
At the same time, there are several other scenarios that can predetermine the position of collectives in a group:
- OG loses to MAD Lions, ENCE and Vitality win their matches = OG drops to 3rd while ENCE moves to 1st.
- ENCE loses to Sprout, and OG and Vitality take three points = ENCE drops to 3rd place, while Vitality becomes the leader of the table.
- OG loses MAD Lions, ENCE loses Sprout, Vitality beats Dignitas = Vitality takes 1st place, OG goes to the playoffs from 2nd place.
- ENCE loses Sprout, OG beats MAD Lions, Vitality loses to Dignitas = OG is 1st, ENCE is 2nd.
Interestingly, Dignitas may still go to Play-In. For this, the Swedish team needs to beat Vitality in order to be higher than the French in personal meetings. It doesn't matter how OG and ENCE play, since Dignitas lost to both rivals, thus not claiming a place higher.
MAD Lions and Sprout will definitely leave the tournament in 5th and 6th places, respectively, regardless of the results of the last round.
Only one team from this six made it to the playoffs - NIP. At the same time, the Swedish team will definitely take first place, given the advantage in personal meetings over FaZe Clan.
Two teams will compete for the second place - FaZe Clan and Fiend. Interestingly, it is these teams that meet in the final round of the IEM Fall 2021 Europe group stage. At the same time, there is only one irreversible option, according to which the fate of the TOP-3 will be decided in one match.
- Fiend = FaZe Clan wins 3rd place.
If FaZe Clan wins, the Bulgarian team will have to wait for the results of the parallel matches. If Double Poney loses to NIP, and SKADE, in turn, is stronger than fnatic, then all three teams will gain six points. In this case, the teams will hold a series of tiebreaks for the 3rd place in the group, taking into account the following hands: SKADE> Fiend, Fiend> Double Poney, Double Poney> SKADE.
There is a scenario in which the French team can save from replay and take 3rd place. To do this, Double Poney needs to defeat NIP and wait for Fiend to lose from FaZe Clan.
With fnatic, everything is much simpler - the team will definitely leave the tournament, having reserved the right to rise one step higher. To do this, the Swedes just need to beat SKADE and take 5th place in their group.[break]matches_raN9gntQEK[break]
