Digest: LEC Summer 2022 for 25.06
lieGreetings to all fans of eSports and League of Legends in particular! This will be the first material in a series of digests on the summer split from Europe -LEC Summer 2022. The Continental League is now taking over the world in its semi-annual cycle, with many teams competing within their home regions. And if you didn’t have time to watch the games yourself, this is a good opportunity to quickly and in detail learn about the details!
Briefly about the tournament itself. Summer split LEC Summer 2022 is the main event in Europe and the second and final split of each esports season (year) for League of Legends. 10 teams from all over the continent are fighting for a prize of €200,000 EUR and, most importantly, access to the Worlds 2022. By the way, unlike in Asia, three of the best, and not just one, European teams will have the opportunity to perform at this year's Worlds. The group stage will last 8 in-game weeks, until August 14, and all matches will be in Bo1 format. Games are played on patch 12.11, however, the champion that was introduced with this update, Bel'Vet, is disabled.
Matches of the day LEC Summer 2022
SK vs MSF
A very good game and victory from Misfits Gaming, with which they pulled out their first victory for themselves and equalized the score with SK Gaming at 1 - 4 on matches. MSF's more meta and mobile pick, along with good coordination on this map, resulted in a couple of fights in the bot lane and one great dive that gave Neon some great snowball on Kai'Sa. The Misfits finished the map in 30 minutes giving only 3 kills to SK.
MAD vs XL
A phenomenal game, once again by Excel, as commentators called it "Possibly the most dominant Excel game this summer." A 10k gold refarm, an 18:1 kill score, a 3:0 dragon score, and a destroyed MAD Lions nexus, all in 21 minutes of play! Both teams have a good pick, but what a difference in implementation. Markoon showed his Volibear again and did a bot lane dive at level 3, taking first blood and nearly killing the enemy support as well, forcing the top laner to teleport away. Further, the Dutch forester did not stop for a minute to disperse the entire map to the loud applause of the audience. At this pace, the match ended.
RGE vs AST
Third win in a row from Rogue and it looks like their small comeback after a poor start of the first week. In this match, we were waiting for a very long and slow map with minimal action. A good early game from Astralis by JeongHoon on Pyke, however a slow and over-cautious play from Rogue allowed them to pull into the late game and show what a “Strength Patch” means. A pick with two meta bruisers and a bot lane with a ton of healing just passed AST in grueling fights. The map ended in 36 minutes with 6 dragons killed and a total of 20 kills.
BDS vs FNC
Although Team BDS couldn't repeat their yesterday's success when they defeated G2, they managed to put Fnatic on a good footing. We saw one of the longest maps for LEC Summer 2022 - exactly 54 minutes. The entire match was relatively even throughout and quite chaotic with a lot of team fights where they could have been avoided. The scales were either on the side of one, or on the side of the second team, and the intrigue remained until the very end. However, in the end, Fnatic managed to pick up the Baron and brazenly push the Nexus.
G2 vs VIT
Another victory from G2, after their win streak was knocked down by a nominal underdog team. Yasuo's bot lane for Flakked is again a very unusual pick from a top European team. And it would seem that this is done for style points, but the strategy worked. A very confident and dynamic map against Team Vitality, which ended in 31 minutes and ended with a score of 27:12, the soul of a sea dragon and 10k gold advantage.
Pick and ban statistics
The overall dynamics in terms of pickrate and bans for meta characters is still the same as in other regions. However, in Europe it is more common to see unusual peaks like Yasuo's bot lane or Kog'Maw's mid lane. So far, in the entire continental league, the first place in terms of both picks and bans is occupied by the Monkey King Wukong - the "imba" of this patch.
