In brief:
Team Empire is a multigaming organization from CIS. The club was founded in 2004, Empire was presented by rosterd in Dota 2, Hearthstone, Call of Duty, League of Legends at different times.
Let us present the history of the Dota 2 subdivision of Team Empire.
First Appearance
Team Empire first appeared on the competitive Dota stage in December 2011. The team team came to Dota from HoN, but the first tournaments started in 2012.
In April 2012, Team Empire took part in a series of Play4Dota 2012 championships. The team managed to win Play4Dota 2012 #3 and Play4Dota 2012 #6.
That roster consisted of:
- blowyourbrain
- Scandal
- j4
- Jackal
- ALWAYSWANNAFLY
In July, Team Empire performed at the first major tournament for the organization. It was StarLadder StarSeries Season 2 where Empire took fifth place.
Later the team failed The Defense Season 2 where they took 13th-16th place. That results instigated changes in the roster.
In September, the team dismissed j4, Jackal and ALWAYSWANNAFLY. The slots of the former players were taken by Goblak, Funn1k and Silent.
The renewed roster started with great results. The team won Dota 2 LostWorld Cup#1, joinDOTA Masters Special Edition II, atoD Showdown 2, RaidCall Dota 2 League Season 1.
Besides, the star roster lacked two won maps to become the champions at StarLadder StarSeries Season 3. However, till the end of the year the team took second place at GosuLeague Season 5 Division 1 and StarLadder StarSeries Season 4.
Be the end of 2012 Empire had become one of the strongest and most respected teams in the CIS region. The players intended to continue their streak of successful performances in 2013.
Season 2013 and the End of Golden Roster
In January 2013, Empire won The Premier League Season 3 beating VP 3-0. But after that the results of Team Empire got significantly worse.
The team took 9th-12th place at The Defense Season 3 and failed a series of qualifiers for EMS One Spring. The team started reshuffles.
In February the team lost Funn1k and his slot was given to Vigoss. Several months later Goblak and Silent left the team, and they got replaced by twiSta and Mitch. Several days later Vigoss also went away and he was replaced by LighTofHeaveN.
A row of such mussy replacements affected their results. Empire could not gain momentum and faced various difficulties at tournaments. At times they did fine as it was at Techlabs Cup 2013 Season 1 and StarLadder StarSeries Season 5, but it was rather an exception than a rule.
The main failure of the year could be their inability to take part in The International 2013. At the qualifiers, the team took 5th-8th place.
After their unsucessful participation in The International, Team Empire tried to fix their game. They were still weak, so in September the team had to go through new changes in the roster.
It started with an exchange of LighTofHeaveN for Silent. It went on when VANSKOR and Mag~ joined the team.
ALso, in September the team lost Vigoss and welcomed ALWAYSWANNAFLY again. The final touch in 2013 was Resolut1on replacing Scandal.
The renewed roster of Team Empire managed to partially improve the results of their performances. The team was able to join Top-3 at StarLadder StarSeries Season 7, take fourth place at WePlay Dota2 League Season 2 and win Electronic Sports World Cup 2013.
Season 2014 and Participation in TI
In 2014, the roster was untouched. The main priority, as always, was getting to The International, so Empire continued working in this direction.
At the beginning of the year they won CIS Carnage 2014, EIZO Cup #11, Techlabs Cup 2014 Season 1, joinDOTA League 2014 Season 1 Europe. Also the team took second place at Electronic Sports Prime Shock Therapy Cup, third place at Dota 2 Champions League Season 2, second place at MLG T.K.O Europe and StarLadder StarSeries Season 9.
In June the team again had a series of successful performances at major tournaments that ended with a victory at Dota 2 Champions League Season 3. The efforts and success of Empire were spotted, so Valve gave an invite to The International 2014 for the team.
Unfortunately, Empire was unable to show their best side at the tournament and they left the event with 13th-16th place. It led to changes in the roster.
At first Vanskor left the team and his slot was given to Solo. In October, the team lost Mag~ who was replaced by yoky.
Till the end of the year Empire won Excellent Moscow Cup 2, took third place at Dota 2 Champions League Season 4 and won several qualifiers. However, in December Solo left the roster, and the team took on ALOHADANCE.
Season 2015
The new season started with a victory at StarLadder StarSeries Season 11. It went on with a victory at joinDOTA Masters XV and JoinDOTA MLG Pro League Season 1.
Also, in that year Team Empire won Dota 2 Champions League Season 3, took second place at MarsTV Dota 2 League 2015 Spring and Esportal Dota 2 League. Their successful performances resulted in an invitation to TI 2015.
At The International 2015 Empire performed better than in the previous year. The players took 9th-12th place, but it was not enough for the management of the club.
After TI, the roster was changed again and the new team was announced on 25 August 2015. The roster was made up by Silent, Resolut1on, ubah, ALOHADANCE, and The_apathy.
It must be said, the mentioned roster was unable to climb high, so the players did not play together for a long time. At first the team dismissed ubah and The_apathy that were replaced by yoky- and Nofear. Later yoky- left the team and his slot was taken by GeneRaL who later joined EPG.
In December, the roster welcomed XBOCT and Funn1k.
2016 and Search of an Optimal Roster
Season 2016 was not the best for Team Empire. Almost all year the team experimented with rosters, and the best performance of the team was at the victorious event BTS Europe #2 and also 9th-12th place at The Manila Major 2016.
The chronology of changes was the following: at the beginning of the year the team dismissed Resolut1on, and later XBOCT. Then Funn1k left, so EMPIRE disbanded their roster. The new team was made up by RAMZES666, Scandal, Afterlife, Miposhka and KingR. But it was not the end for the replacements.
Scandal, RAMZES666 and Afterlife left, and they got replaced by Ghostik, ALOHADANCE and God. However, literally a month ALOHADANCE and God left as well.
Keeping the Party Going, or Attempts to return the Previous Glory
The following years were not different from 2016. In 2017 Empire managed to play well at The International 2017 when the roster made up by Resolut1on, fn, Ghostik, RodjER and Miposhka took 7th-8th place getting beaten by the champions of the year from Team Liquid.
Then Empire again tried to find their gaming style and experimented with rosters. There were lots of tests and at times players did not stay in the team for even several weeks.
In 2018 the tendency resumed. The best result at big tournaments was 11th-12th place at EPICENTER XL. Empire gradually moved to low-ranked tournaments but those events were also difficult for the players.
Constant replacements of players and founding of the youth roster called Empire Hope did not help either.
Empire in 2019-2020
In 2019 Empire took part in big events less and less. One of those performances was at MDL Disneyland Paris Major where the team made up by dream’, Kodos, Maden, sayuw and KingR took 13th-16th place.
In the online period in 2020 the results again had a lot of room for improvement, however, there were some glimpses of good luck.
The team won the Vulkan Fight Series, took second place at ROG Community Cup Season 2, second place at Arena of Blood Season 2.
However, there were 11th-12th places at OMEGA League: Europe Divine Division, 7th-8th place at BTS Pro Series Season 3: Europe/CIS.
Constant experiments on the roster did not finish. In 2021 the organization placed a bet on their youngsters and the roster included Smiling Knight, gwynbleidd, Petushara, sayuw, and EcNart.
The team managed to get qualified for ESL One CIS Online Season 1 and take 9th-12th place at Snow Sweet Snow #1.
