"Why is TI even needed now?" — fans express their dissatisfaction with The International 2023 compendium
Andrew G.Fans of Dota 2 have voiced their discontent with Valve's recent approach to launching the compendium. Numerous Reddit posts have criticized the alterations linked to The International 2023.
A certain user drew a comparison between past editions of The International and a genuine celebration for the game's enthusiasts. They stressed that the Battle Pass and its associated challenges were the driving force behind motivating regular players to engage in matchmaking and complete tasks for rewards. However, they now find little motivation to return to Dota 2. They also voiced apprehensions that TI might now transform into a standard tournament where players compete for millions of dollars without proper motivation. "Why do we need TI now? You've converted the tournament from an event that appealed to everyone into something that will only attract fantasy enthusiasts," they remarked.
Another user indicated that they have no plans to spend even $7.5 from their $400 Steam account balance on the standard compendium. In their view, the new content is a significant misstep by Valve that could signify the beginning of the game's decline. Many users concurred with this viewpoint, underscoring that paying $30 for the absence of cosmetic items doesn't make sense.
The compendium for The International 12 was released on the night of September 28th. A quarter of the proceeds from its sales will contribute to The International 2023 prize pool. However, Valve has chosen not to incorporate the traditional Battle Pass with chests and cosmetic items in the compendium, as seen in previous years. The company has stated that this content will become available after the completion of The International 12.
