NAVI became IEM Cologne 2021 champions!
Ihor MatusIntel Extreme Masters Cologne 2021 has come to an end. S1mple and the company were able, according to the expectations of bookmakers and spectators, to prevail in this confrontation with G2 Esports. The latter, just like in the case of IEM Katowice 2020, failed to take a single card from their principal opponents.
The confrontation began on Dust 2. There Natus Vincere started on the attacking side and took eight rounds in the first half. After NAVI switched over to the side of the defense, they continued to put pressure on their opponents. G2 managed to take only 4 rounds in the second half and the team was defeated on Dust 2 with a score of 11-16.
On Mirage Natus Vincere have already started on the defense side. Both halves of the map ended with a score of 8-7 in favor of NAVI and Born to Win defeated G2 with a score of 16-14.
The final battle took place on Nuke. This time, G2 Esports have already started for the defense. After the first half, the Europeans gave hope to their fans and betters, who were betting on the Kovacs brothers and their teammates, as the team finished the first half with an advantage for themselves for the first time, but 8 won rounds cannot be called a big gap. Natus Vincere naturally showed a good game and finished this confrontation on Nuke with a score of 16-13.
As a result, the map ended with a score of 16-13. Unfortunately, G2 Esports were unable to take revenge for the lost IEM Katowice 2020 final. It's a shame, annoying, but, as they say, okay. Perhaps next time it will be lucky, but this time NAVI showed that now they are in such a playful form that they can beat almost any team in the world.
Natus Vincere received only the title of champion of Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2021 and earned a trophy for the club house, but also won the main cash prize of $ 400,000. G2 Esports, who became the silver medalist, received the second largest reward in the form of $ 180,000.
