Spirit Secure Hard-Fought Victory Over Eternal Fire at ESL Pro League Season 21
Team Spirit edged out Eternal Fire in their opening quarterfinal match of CS2's ESL Pro League Season 21, clinching a 2-1 win.
A crushing defeat for Eternal Fire seemed like the expected outcome, but the Turkish squad made Spirit sweat, forcing them into a stressful match. The "dragons" were visibly tilted but ultimately proved stronger on the decider map.
ESL Pro League Season 21 Quarterfinal: Team Spirit vs. Eternal Fire (BO3)

Map veto:
- Spirit banned Inferno
- EF banned Ancient
- Spirit picked Nuke
- EF picked Anubis
- Spirit banned Train
- EF banned Dust2
- Mirage was left as the decider
Map 1 – Nuke (Spirit’s pick, 19-15)

Spirit took their map pick but let EF push them into double overtime. The Turkish squad made a strong comeback attempt but couldn't handle the pressure in crucial moments.
Surprisingly, Spirit’s early rounds were dominant:
- Round 1 – Ace by chopper
- Round 2 – Quad kill by donk
- Round 3 – Easy knife kill by sh1ro
Despite this strong start, Spirit nearly lost control of their own pick. The Russian squad struggled to close rounds efficiently, while “donk” showed cocky behavior and unsportsmanlike shouting at his opponents.

donk stayed behind to practice his aim after Map 1, while his entire team took a break - HLTV’s Instagram account.
Map 2 – Anubis (EF’s pick, 10-13)

Donk’s extra aim training didn’t pay off, as he delivered one of his weakest performances in the series. Eternal Fire capitalized on their tactical superiority, despite some individual inconsistencies. They secured a 13-10 victory, forcing a decider.
Map 3 – Mirage (Decider, 13-7 Spirit win)

Spirit delivered a much stronger performance on Mirage, reading EF’s tactical moves well and securing a convincing victory. Eternal Fire fell apart, losing 7-13 on the final map.
While Spirit showed cracks under pressure on Nuke, allowing EF to take Anubis, they still proved their TOP 1 contender status with a solid win on Mirage.
Eternal Fire’s packed schedule may have played a role in their struggles, but tactically, they outplayed Spirit for much of the series. Still, Spirit’s strong start on Nuke set the tone for their shaky yet ultimately successful series win.
Both teams made numerous mistakes, costing Eternal Fire their tournament run, while Team Spirit advanced to the semifinals in low spirits.
