NAVI vs. Astralis: the return of the principled derby or the easiest one for the "Born to Win"?
The first semi-final of IEM Cologne 2022 will begin very soon, within which the teams NaVi and Astralis will meet - the once irreconcilable rivals who fought for the highest places. Unfortunately, now the Danish team is far from ideal, while the "Born to Win" are considered one of the main favorites of the championship. Nevertheless, this meeting promises to be entertaining, because the teams, having significant experience, are worth each other and intend to finish the first half of the season on a positive note.
During the current tournament, NAVI has not yet suffered a single defeat, having managed to defeat MOUZ (2:1), NIP (2:0) and Movistar Riders (2:1) at the group stage. In turn, the Danish team has already managed to lose to 00NATION (6:16) and FaZe Clan (0:2), but still found the strength to get into the playoffs. In addition, on the eve of Astralis won a strong-willed victory over MOUZ (2:1), thus gaining additional practice before the semi-finals.
Within the framework of the current season, the teams held two meetings:
- Astralis won at BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2022 with a score of 19:17.
- NAVI's victory in the ESL Pro League Season 15 with a score of 2:1.
However, in each of the two matches, the teams played in different compositions.
We will probably skip the Vertigo and Dust 2/Mirage maps this time, which will definitely play into the hands of the Danish team. And yet NAVI looks much more confident on all other maps, leaving Astralis not much choice.

IEM Cologne 2022 takes place from 5 to 17 July in Germany at the Hyatt Regency Cologne and LANXESS arena venues. As part of the championship, 24 teams from Europe, the CIS, Oceania, China, North and South America are fighting for a prize pool of $1,000,000, as well as rating points in the BLAST Premier table.
