LEC Versus 2026: Yunara’s Pentakill Keeps Shifters’ Playoff Hopes Alive
The third match of the day features Shifters vs SK Gaming. For Shifters, this match is crucial for making the playoffs, while for SK Gaming, sitting at a 3-7 record, it holds no weight as they are eliminated from the tournament regardless of the outcome. Let's take a look at how the match unfolded.
Game 1 Picks:
- Shifters: RekSai, Wukong, Taliyah, Yunara, Alistar
- SK Gaming: Ambessa, Dr.Mundo, Azir, Xayah, Rakan
The game started quite smoothly without any action on the map. First Blood was spilled only at the 8th minute in the bot lane. Xayah managed to get a solo kill on Yunara, increasing her lane advantage even further. This kill also allowed SK Gaming to secure the first dragon.
At the 16th minute, during a contest for the dragon, the teams traded supports, but Shifters were in a disadvantageous position regarding HP. Despite this, they decided to try and take the dragon anyway, which SK Gaming managed to steal, securing their third dragon. However, in the subsequent fight in the mid lane, Shifters managed to find several kills, increasing their gold lead to 3,000. But unlike a gold lead, buffs are permanent.
The 30th minute brought a fight for the dragon, which SK Gaming managed to win, securing Soul Point. This allowed them to take Baron without resistance. A very important factor for this Baron was that Shifters* still tried to interfere slightly but spent a lot of resources, which played a role in subsequent fights.
SK Gaming played their Baron buff well but overextended a bit in the top lane and gave away a lot to Shifters. Yunara was able to secure a Penta Kill and return the advantage to her team. After that, Shifters locked down their third Hextech Dragon and picked up a kill on Dr. Mundo.
A fight at Baron was forced by SK Gaming, and they managed to take the objective, but a full-build Yunara was able to decide the outcome of the fight. Shifters won this engagement 5-for-2, and then closed out the match with a victory. They sit at 5-6 in the standings and still have chances to make the playoffs.
This year, the LEC Versus 2026 does not provide a cash prize for winning the tournament. Instead, teams are competing for the opportunity to qualify for the international tournament, First Stand 2026. The Regular Season will be held in a Bo1 format where every team faces each other. In total, teams will play 11 matches each, and those with the best results will advance to the playoffs.
