LEC Spring 2022: Start Today!

Add as a Preferred Source

Already today, Friday January 14th, the first five games of the League of Legends spring split - LEC Spring 2022 in Europe will take place. With a gap of two days after Korea and four days after China, the main event of the start of the LoL season in Europe has finally begun!

The organizers of the LEC themselves are very happy about the start of the tournament. At least that's what their reaction looks like on the tilt...

In China, the prize pool is $ 660,000, Korea is $ 310,000, while Europe has the smallest of the three regions, with a total prize pool of € 200,000 EUR (≃ $ 230,000).

But the main prize for the first place will not even be half of this amount, as is usually accepted, but only € 80,000. In addition to the cash prize, the team that will take first place in this spring split will, by tradition, go to the Mid-Season Invitational 2022.

And 10 top League of Legends teams from all over the European region will fight for a place in MSI 2022, just like for fame and money.

About the rules of the tournament

The rules are exactly the same as on the LCK split from Korea, which I have already reviewed before. Let's remember.

So, according to the classics, we are waiting for the group stage already familiar to all, 9 weeks long. During this time, each team must play 18 matches. Let me remind you that all matches of the LEC group stage will be in Bo3 format.

After the end of the group stage, based on the results of the points scored, the 6 best teams will be determined, which will advance to the playoffs. Right there we will watch all the matches in Bo5 format.

Before naming the list of teams that made it to the spring split this year, I must mention the changes that have taken place on the professional scene.

At the very beginning of the season, FC Schalke 04 Esports announced that their LEC slot had been sold to the Swedes from Team BDS. This put an end to the history of S04 battles within the LEC European Split, which had lasted for 5 years.

Team BDS later revealed their roster at the LEC, which included two former S04 players.
