Gleb «Funn1k» Lipatnikov is one of the most experienced professional Dota 2 players from the CIS region. Funn1k started his career in the first version of Dota where he played for a few teams. We present to your attention Funn1k’s road to becoming an esportsman.
The beginning of the career
Like the majority of esportsmen, Funn1k’s road had started way before his arrival to a professional organization. Since his early years, Funn1k has spent a lot of time playing video games and spent hours in computer clubs. There he developed a passion for competitive disciplines, namely, Dota.
DotA AllStars
Funn1k is a true veteran in the CIS region. He is one of the very few who was participating in competitions in the first Dota. The results can’t be said to be very successful but Funn1k made his name back then.
Funn1k played for sFs, Fota, The Retry, and Hard Team in the first version of Dota. The player moved to Dota 2 in 2011.
Dota 2
The team eSahara was the first club for Funn1k in Dota 2. Gleg did stay for too long there and transferred to DTS a few months later. With this team, he managed to win the championship at ASUS Open 2012 Spring Cup, after which Funn1k moved to Darer in May 2011. He was taking part in various small leagues and tournaments with Darer, however, the team was able to receive a direct invitation to The International 2012. However, the team failed at the tournament and left the championship, having placed 9th-12th. Funn1k went to Team Empire after that.
Team Empire and the first success
A lucky streak started in Funn1k’s career in Team Empire. With this club, Gleb held second place at StarLadder StarSeries Season 3, after which the team faced a victorious streak.
The team achieved victory at three championships in November: joinDOTA Masters Special Edition II, atoD Showdown 2, and Raidcall Dota 2 League Season 1. Also, the team placed 3rd-4th at DreamHack Winter 2012, and December 2012 brought the team success again: the team held second place at GosuLeague Season 5 Division 1 and StarLadder StarSeries Season 4.
2013 began successfully too. The team prevailed at The Premier League Season 3 in January. Such results were remarkable. That’s why Funn1k transferred to NaVi in February 2013.
Natus Vincere
The NaVi period can be called the most successful one in the player’s career. After the transfer to «yellow-and-black», Funn1k started participating in the most prestigious tournaments. This brought its results.
NaVi achieved victory at Alienware Cup 2013 – Season 1 in July 2013, after which they went to The International 2013. The performance at TI3 was one of the brightest and most remarkable performances in the history of Dota. The team managed to place second, having stopped one step away from the desired title. The history of Funn1k was not over in NaVi after the upsetting loss.
The team prevailed at DreamLeague Kick-off Season in November 2013 and won StarLadder StarSeries Season 8 in January 2014. The team triumphed at the championship Dota 2 Champions League Season 2 in April 2014. That season, the team was able to receive a direct invitation to TI4.
Funn1k with the team held a 7th-8th place at the championship. After this, Funn1k managed to win another championship on the roster of NaVi, which was Dota 2 Champions League Season 4.
Trying to find himself
Funn1k returned to Team Empire in December 2015. Funn1k became the champion of joinDOTA MLG Pro League Season 1 and Game Show Global eSports Cup Season 1 in two months after his transfer.
Funn1k left the roster of Empire and moved to Team Spirit in March 2016. The transfer to Spirit marked the beginning of the period of regular searches.
Having played for TS for 5 months, Funn1k transferred to LQ and went to Double Dimension a few weeks later, after which he successfully moved to M19.
M19 became a hope for Funn1k. He made it to the qualifiers for The International 2017 with this team and almost succeeded there but the team was not able to deal with its emotions in the playoffs of the TI qualifiers.
Funn1k left M19 in February 2018 and became a player of MEGA_LADA E-sports where he spent 3 months. Obviously, it was not about high results and Funn1k moved to Aachen City Esports soon. The player played there from March 2019 to August of the same year. Having achieved no significant results, the player became inactive for some time, it lasted till January 2020. In January 2020, Funn1k became a part of HellRaisers.
HR
Funn1k began returning to his past shape in HR. With the team, he placed second at Parimatch League Season 2 Round Robin and WeSave! Charity Play – EU & CIS. The team held third place at Parimatch League Season 3 in March 2020 and repeated the result four months later. In September, HR finished 7th-8th at OMEGA League: Europe Divine Division and 5th-6th at BTS Pro Series Season 3: Europe/CIS.
The player has earned more than 418,000 dollars of prize money in his career.
