Esports news Winstrike
In brief:
Winstrike is a CIS multigaming organization. Winstrike is a widely famous organization both in CIS and beyond, first of all, for its rosters in key disciplines.
We present to your attention the history of the CSGO branch of Winstrike.
The first appearance
Winstrike emerged on the professional CSGO scene only in 2018. Despite it being too late, according to esports standards, the organization decided to enter the top, having signed the prospective team Quantum Bellator Fire, and the first roster included:
- balbIna
- Kvik
- waterfaLLZ
- jmqa
- BoombI4
Big challenges waited for the well-played but still not too experienced players in the future. They started right after the signing of contracts.
The season of 2018 and the first results
ZOTAC Cup Masters 2018 – Europe was the first tournament for Winstrike. The team performed not too confidently there and placed only 7th-8th, however, Winstrike rehabilitated at the next championship.
In June 2018, Winstrike achieved victory at M.Game League #2, which was the first tournament won by the recently-created team. The team held the 3rd-4th place at Thunderpick Invitational #2 and the 5th-6th place at QIWI TEAM PLAY Season 1 later.
Winstrike prevailed at another small tournament in July. This time, the team managed to become the champions of Legend Series: Europe #5 – Online Stage. However, good debut results were quickly replaced by the bad ones.
The team placed 17th-32nd at ESEA Season 28: Advanced Division – Europe, which can hardly be called a successful result. After that, the team finished 5th-6th at Fusion.bet Masters II and held the 3rd-4th place at MID.TV Cyber Cup.
The team failed in the European qualifiers to StarSeries & i-League CS:GO Season 6 in July.
Winstrike held the 2nd place at BravoBet Cup in August and started preparing actively for the London Major.
In September, Winstrike performed at FACEIT Major: London 2018, however, suffered from the tough loss and placed 15th-16th. Obviously, the unsatisfying result caused drastic roster changes.
BalbIna, Kvik, waterfaLLZ, and jmqa were benched. Kvik returned to the roster later and two other slots were taken by n0rb3r7 and WorldEdit.
Winstrike was playing with this roster till the end of the season, however, the team was not able to boast of significant results. The team held the 3rd place in the qualifiers to WESG 2018 Russian by OMEN, the 17th-32nd in the qualifiers to DreamHack Open Winter, and the 9th-12th place at StarSeries & i-League CS:GO Season 7. However, the team managed to prevail in the qualifiers to CIS Minor Championship – Katowice 2019, which made the end of the season a bit brighter.
The season of 2019 and attempts to find its play
The upcoming season started with the performance at CIS Minor Championship – Katowice 2019. Winstrike was playing at the tournament pretty confidently, however, lost to Team Spirit in the semi-final and was eliminated from the championship placing third.
However, the team made it to The Katowice Major 2019 through Intel Extreme Masters XIII – Katowice Major 2019: Minors Place 3rd Place Play-In.
Before the performance at The Major tournament, Winstrike held the 9th-10th place at WePlay! Lock and Load.
Intel Extreme Masters XIII – Katowice Major 2019 was even worse than the London Major 2018. In Katowice, Winstrike did not demonstrate a good play and, as a result, they were eliminated from the championship placing 17th-19th. After the failed performance at the Major, Winstrike placed 15th-16th in the qualifiers to ECS Season 7, which led to roster changes. WayLander left the team and his slot was held by bondik.
The local roster change helped to improve short-term results. The team held the 2nd place at LOOT.BET/CS Season 1, the 7th-8th place at GG.BET Sydney Invitational, the 5th place at WePlay! Forge of Masters Season 1: Regular Season.
The team prevailed at GG League 2019 Olsztyn Offline Qualifier in May, after which the leader in the face of BoombI4 moved to NAVI from Winstrike. The spot of the departed player was taken by Edward.
Winstrike was playing with the updated roster till September 2019. During this period, the team participated in a few small tournaments where held mediocre places. The wide list of such events includes CS.Money Premier where Winstrike placed 2nd, DreamHack Open Summer 2019 where Winstrike paced 7th-8th, Good Game League 2019 and the 7th-8th place.
The team held the 3rd-4th place at GG.Bet New York Invitational in August but failed the qualifiers to BLAST Pro Series Moscow 2019 and ECS Season 8.
The other replacements began in Winstrike in September 2019. Edward was the first one to leave the team, n0rb3r7 was benched after that. The slots of the departed players were taken by KrizzeN and Lack1. Hobbit joined the team a bit later.
Until the end of the year, Winstrike managed to hold the 2nd place at WESG 2019 Central Asia: Kazakhstan and LOOT.BET/CS Season 5 with the renewed roster. However, the team failed in the qualifiers to Intel Extreme Masters XIV – World Championship, which was definitely a high-priority tournament.
Attempts continued or the season of 2020
Winstrike excelled with a big number of played tournaments in 2020, however, they performed decently only at a few of them.
The team failed in the second qualifiers to Intel Extreme Masters XIV – World Championship at the beginning of the year and did not qualify to DreamHack Open Anaheim 2020.
Also, the team was not able to prove itself decently in the qualifiers to Flashpoint Season 1. A row of failures was stopped by the victory in the closed CIS qualifiers to CIS Minor Championship – Rio 2020. But unfortunately, the triumph was very short.
The team held the 5th-8th place at LOOT.BET/CS Season 6, the 13th-16th place at #HomeSweetHome: Week 5, and the 7th-8th place at BLAST Premier CIS Cup in May. However, the team managed to place 2nd at ESL One: Road to Rio – CIS in May.
Hobbit left the team in July, he became a free agent, and his slot was taken by NickelBack. Winstrike continued playing at various tournaments by the end of the year but the results still left much more to be desired.
The team had a series of failed tournaments in August, having placed 9th-12th at Eden Arena: Malta Vibes – Week 6 and 13th-16th at Eden Arena: Malta Vibes – Week 7. Also, there was the 13th-16th place at Funspart ULTI 2020 – Europe and the 5th-8th place at Eden Arena: Malta Vibes – Week 9.
Winstrike became the champion for the first time in years in September. This time, the team achieved victory at Legend Series Season 6. But the team failed at Nine to Five #4 later where it held the 9th-12th place and in the qualifiers to Intel Extreme Masters XV – Beijing Online.
The end of 2020 was positive. Winstrike held the 3rd place at ESEA Season 35: Advanced Division – Europe, the 3rd-4th place at Cyber.Bet Golden League and prevailed at Dell Gaming League Russia.
Also, Winstrike decided to change the roster by the end of the year. Bondik and KrizzeN parted ways with the roster and their slots were taken by Krad and Forester.
The team placed 5th-8th at Vulkan Fight Series and 9th-12th at Snow Sweet Snow #1 in 2021.
