ESL has officially announced the next major - IEM Rio 2022 will be held from October 31 to November 13

Tournament operator ESL has officially announced the next major — IEM Rio 2022 will be held from October 31 to November 13. A day after the initial teaser, the organizers presented their plans for the autumn part of the 2022 competitive season.

Don't expect big changes to the main qualifiers for IEM Rio 2022 as the 24 teams that qualify from the RMR tournaments will compete in three stages of the Major starting on October 31st.

The first two stages of the championship will be held in a studio format. However, the IEM Rio 2022 Playoffs scheduled for November 10-13 will take place at the Jeunesse Arena, which has a capacity of 15,000 to 22,000 people. Like at the last major, the prize pool of IEM Rio 2022 will be $1,000,000.

We couldn't be more excited to finally bring the Major to Rio de Janeiro. The ever growing and passionate Brazilian esports community is amazing and over the past few years we have hoped to provide fans with one of the greatest esports experiences. Now the time has finally come and we can't wait for the best CS:GO teams in the world to eventually take to the Jeunesse Arena and shake it to its core with excitement from Brazil and beyond.

IEM Rio 2022 should retain the structure and format approved by Valve in February of this year. According to the results of the previous major, seven teams from Europe, as well as one team from America, will make it to the Legends stage.

Recall that earlier the tournament operator ESL planned to organize ESL One: Rio 2020. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the championship was postponed several times, and then completely canceled. Tickets for the championship will go on sale on Wednesday, May 25. Remarkably, tickets purchased for the canceled Major in 2020 remain valid for IEM Rio 2022.
