G2 Esports beat Vitality with a score of 2: 1 and reached the semifinals of IEM Winter 2021. At the same time, the Swedish team NIP earned a ticket to the quarterfinals of the tournament, beating Liquid with a score of 2: 0.

NIP - Liquid

The battle for the last slot in the playoffs from Group A began on Mirage, which became the choice of the North American team. However, the Swedes quickly showed that they had prepared for such a move by their opponent, gaining a two-fold advantage over the side switching. In the second half, Liquid finally collapsed, unable to cope with the opponent's attack. As a result, NIP very easily outplayed the opponent on his own choice, thereby breaking into the leaders of the series - 16: 6.

Next, the teams moved to the Inferno map, which became the NIP's choice. The starting segment was entirely dominated by the Swedes. However, closer to the changeover, Liquid managed to get closer to the opponent, reducing the gap to one round. At some point, it seemed that the North Americans would completely turn the game upside down. But a series of rounds from the NIP allowed the Swedes to take over the economy, and at the same time gallop far ahead to reach the quarterfinals of IEM Winter 2021 - 16:12.

Vitality - G2

The French derby started on Vertigo, which became Vitality's choice. However, G2 showed a fairly confident defense, having managed to get a comfortable advantage before switching sides. In the second half, Vitality had to win back sharply, as the opponent took the starting streak of rounds, thereby getting closer to victory. At the same time, ZywOo and the company showed character, not allowing the opponent to take the coveted rounds. As a result, after a long technical pause, Vitality closed its own peak and became the leader of the series - 16:14.

Mirage worked in favor of G2, who showed a convincing half in attack, gaining a two-fold lead over the side switching. However, in the second half, Vitality had to recoup again. However, when the score was 14:13, the team literally went out of the game, which, coupled with the loss of the economy, allowed G2 to close all issues very quickly and equalize the score - 16:14.

Everything was decided on the map Inferno, where the starting half ended with a minimal advantage of G2. However, after the change of sides, the intrigue disappeared completely, as NiKo and the company showed a fast attack, actually tearing apart the opponent's defense. As a result, G2 won the third championship and advanced to the semifinals - 16: 9.
