What is Fortnite’s Blitz Royale Mode: Rules, Boons and Roadmap

Blitz Royale is a new signature Fortnite mode designed specifically for mobile players, as it speeds up the game pace by four times and offers equal conditions for all participants. The mode will be available in the game until July 15 for all platforms. You can play solo or in a squad of up to four players. There are also two unique rewards up for grabs until the mode ends.
In this article, I’ll try to give you a quick and detailed overview of everything related to Blitz Royale.
What is Blitz Royale?
Blitz Royale is a new Fortnite mode created by Epic Games, which was added to the game on June 17. The official game blog also stated that the mode will be available for a limited time, until July 15, although developers mentioned it might return in the future. I’d say it’s very likely to come back, as the fast-paced Blitz matches offer a more compact gameplay experience. The developer may be running a large-scale test to attract the attention of PC and console veterans to mobile devices.
Which Platform is Blitz Royale Available On?
While Blitz Royale was designed with mobile gaming trends and frames in mind, the mode is available on all current platforms that support Fortnite directly: PC, Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch & Switch 2, Android, and iOS (EU region only). There are also alternative ways to run the game — cloud gaming works great on school Chromebooks or older PCs. The most popular options here are GeForce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming, both backed by major companies.

Rewards
Play Blitz Royale to unlock two exclusive limited-time cosmetics: Blitz Knight Outfit, earned by reaching 10 account levels or placing in the top 10 in 20 matches, and Blitz ‘Brella Glider, awarded for winning three Blitz Royale matches. These rewards are only available until Blitz Royale ends on July 15, so make sure to claim them before they disappear.

Fortnite: Blitz Royale Roadmap
Four weeks. Four major shake-ups. Here’s what to expect each week in Blitz Royale:
- Week 1 (June 18): Golden Llama event — unlock Mythic classics like the Rocket Ram.
- Week 2 (June 24): Avatar returns — start with a Bending Scroll and battle in elemental zones.
- Week 3 (July 1): Boss weapons arrive — including Thorne’s Vampire Blade & Blitz Chain of Hades.
- Week 4 (July 8): TMNT takeover — iconic melee gear, Nitro Fists, Typhoon Blade & more drop in.
Each week in Blitz Royale brings new items, crossovers, and gameplay twists — from bending the elements to slicing through enemies with turtle power. This rotating content is built to keep Blitz feeling fresh and chaotic until it disappears on July 15.
Blitz Royale Rules
It’s a fast-paced Zero Build mode with only 32 players, dropped straight into a compact battleground built around two all-time fan-favorite POIs: Pleasant Park and Retail Row. Meaningful difference between Blitz Royale and Battle Royale: you don’t drop in empty-handed. Everyone starts with either a medallion or a unique weapon, so there’s no warm-up — just straight action. No building, no time-wasting. Pure chaos.
Blitz Royale is designed to be short, sweaty, and super satisfying. Perfect for a quick game on the go or a no-nonsense squad session.

Boons aka Medallions
Boons — these are circular medallions you’ll find around the map, and they’re your key to leveling up in-game. The new system is called Blitz Level: every elimination, every storm circle survived, bumps your level up. The higher you go, the better gear you unlock — stronger weapons, more boons, and more dominance. It’s a system built to reward aggressive plays and clutch survival.

How to Get Boons in Blitz Royale?
You can get Boons in Blitz Royale by leveling up through eliminations and surviving storm phases, which increases your Blitz Level. They also drop from golden chests scattered across the map and occasionally from golden supply drops or llamas that appear mid-game. Each player can carry multiple Boons, and they offer distinct advantages across four categories: offense, mobility, healing, and detection.
Here’s all Blitz Royale’s Boons explanation in a list by categories:
Category | Boon | Effect |
Offense | Fire Boon | Speeds up weapon reload times |
Offense | Void Boon | Reveals nearby players after knocking an enemy |
Mobility | Combat Acrobat | Parkour moves reload your current weapon |
Mobility | Adrenaline Rush | Grants Slap effect after mantling, hurdling, or wall-jumping |
Mobility | Wind Boon | Increases movement speed while holding a pickaxe |
Healing | Storm Caller | Gradually restores shield while inside the storm |
Healing | Agile Healer | Lets you sprint while healing; grants Slap effect after using heal items |
Detection | Reactive Ping | Marks enemies on the map after they damage you |
Detection | Vulture Boon | Eliminated enemies are briefly marked on the map |
Utility | Gold Rush | Boosts pickaxe damage after opening containers |
Choose your Boons based on your playstyle — whether you're aggressive, evasive, or focused on survivability — and adapt as your Blitz Level climbs.
Fortnite's Modes Recap
Fortnite’s Blitz Royale has over 443,000 peak players, and it’s already outpacing both the classic Battle Royale and Zero Build modes. Five-minute matches, storm-level intensity, and stripped-down tactical focus have made it an instant favorite, especially among mobile and fast-action fans.
In comparison, the main game mode, Chapter 6 Season 3: Fortnite Battle Royale, has seen a bit of a drop in online activity since the release of Blitz Royale. On day four, it saw a 24-hour peak of 184,888 players in the main mode, while the new mode saw 414,245. Blitz Royale’s rise could be meteoric!
