Overwatch Season 1: A New Beginning

The official Overwatch Season 1 release date is February 10, 2026, kicking off a year-long narrative arc called "The Reign of Talon." This update is the most substantial in the game's history, introducing an unprecedented five new heroes simultaneously, a complete user interface overhaul, and a host of new features designed to reshape the player experience and re-engage the community after Overwatch 2 failed to deliver on many of its initial promises.

Here’s the Overwatch Season 1 preview with all main updates!

What's New in Season 1?

The launch of Season 1 is a foundational overhaul. The primary change is the introduction of five new playable characters, which account for half of the ten total heroes planned for release throughout 2026. The new heroes arriving on February 10 are Domina (Talon/Tank), Emre (Talon/Damage), Mizuki (Talon/Support), Anran (Overwatch/Damage), and the long-awaited Jetpack Cat (Overwatch/Support). Anran will be available for a limited time via a Hero Trial starting February 5.

Beyond the new heroes, Season 1 implements several systemic changes. All players will experience a competitive rank reset, providing a fresh start for the competitive ladder. A new "Hero Sub-Passives" feature is being introduced, adding another layer of depth to character abilities. The Hero Gauntlet mode is also being updated with the addition of the new hero Vendetta and a "Hero Builder" feature, allowing for more customization.

The entire game interface has been refreshed, removing the last vestiges of the Overwatch 2 branding and streamlining the user experience to align with the game's new direction. This season also marks a change in cosmetic philosophy, as Mercy will receive her second Mythic skin, "Celestial Guardian," breaking the previous rule of only one Mythic per hero.

Season 1 Events and Collaborations

Season 1 is packed with in-game events and a major brand collaboration. The central event is "Conquest," a meta-narrative experience where players can align with either the Talon or Overwatch factions. Participating in this event will reward players with faction-specific cosmetics as the "Reign of Talon" story unfolds directly within the game. This season also sees the return of crossovers after a long hiatus, with the introduction of the Overwatch x Hello Kitty and Friends collection.

Season 3, planned for the summer, will add the new "Japan Night" map and will feature the Overwatch Champion Series (OWCS) at the Esports World Cup, marking a significant step in the game's competitive future. Season 4 will continue the trend with another new hero and will host two of the biggest events on the Blizzard calendar: BlizzCon 2026 and the Overwatch World Cup. The roadmap confirms that two additional seasons will follow in the fall and winter, leading directly into a new, yet-to-be-announced story arc that will begin with a fresh Season 1 in 2027. This structured, long-term plan demonstrates a clear vision for the future of Overwatch, aiming to provide a steady and engaging stream of content for all players.
