Silksong: How To Change Jumps On Horizontal Fully Legit

Despite the overall difficulty of Silksong, players often struggle with the game’s basic jump, particularly its movement trajectory, which can feel confusing. In reality, there is a simple way to change it into a more familiar move for casual players – the so-called horizontal jump. To achieve this, you need to find the right Crest on the map, which allows you to move “forward” comfortably during an attack in mid-air.
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to change the jump in Silksong using built-in game mechanics, and why it’s actually simpler than it seems. And yes, you won’t need to download anything extra.
Silksong Inconvenient Basic Jump
Hollow Knight: Silksong is much more hardcore compared to the original 2017 game. Because of this, the developers released a patch that makes the early stages easier, helping players get used to the mechanics before diving into the full challenge. However, this patch doesn’t remove the fact that the basic jump in the game feels rather “inconvenient,” often causing players to lose spatial awareness. The solution lies within the game itself: through proper progression, you can unlock a horizontal jump – a move we are so accustomed to in classic platformers.
In the previous game, Hornet was the first boss, and all of her attacks followed a vertical diagonal pattern. In Silksong, the developers decided to preserve this canonical design, so the beginning of the game delivers the same feeling, making it clear that this is the same universe fans have come to love.

How To Change Jump in Silksong
Throughout the game, you can find various hero upgrades on the map. One of these upgrades is Crests, which alter your playstyle – attacks, movement, and additional abilities. To change the jump in Silksong, you need to switch your playstyle with the help of Crests scattered across the map, specifically the Reaper or Wanderer. Using one of these two allows you to move horizontally when combining “jump” + “down strike.” This method is completely legitimate and intended by the game’s design.

First Way: Reaper Crest
The Reaper Crest can be found in Greymoor, specifically inside the Chapel of the Reaper. To get it, head left from the main zone and push through until you reach the upper chamber of the chapel. There you’ll face a gauntlet challenge — clear it successfully, and you’ll be able to interact with an altar-like object that rewards you with the Crest. Once equipped, the Reaper Crest shifts Hornet’s combat rhythm toward heavier strikes, trading speed for raw power. It also rewards patience by restoring extra Silk whenever enemies are defeated, making it especially useful for players who prefer slow, methodical battles where every strike counts. The included pogo action — a slower downward slash — helps you maintain control in aerial fights while keeping a steady pace.

Second Way: Wanderer Crest
The Wanderer Crest requires a bit more effort to obtain. You’ll need a Simple Key purchased in Bone Bottom for 500 Rosaries before heading to the Wormways through the nearby elevator. The path involves plenty of mobility — dashing over gaps, chaining pogo attacks, and defeating a mini-boss that spits acid along the way. Once you open the locked door and descend into Bonegrave, you’ll eventually reach the Chapel of the Wanderer, where the Crest is hidden. When equipped, the Wanderer Crest transforms Hornet’s combat into a fast, precise style, emphasizing quick strikes and agile movement. Its pogo action — a rapid downward slash — mirrors the iconic Hollow Knight pogo, making it ideal for players who prefer an evasive, hit-and-run approach to combat rather than brute force.
How To Get A Map in Silksong?
To get a map in Hollow Knight: Silksong, you’ll need to track down Shakra, the map-seller located in The Marrow, the game’s second major area. Reaching her takes some progress: first push through Moss Grotto, defeat the Moss Mother, then continue into Bone Bottom. From there, follow the platforming route past the Flea Caravan until you arrive at Shakra’s spot.
After purchasing a map, you’ll also gain the ability to locate Silk Skills or Abilities on it — upgrades that unlock new attacks and movements in the game. For example, the double jump!
