Palworld Revolution: Unleashing a Pokemon Mod Craze and Redefining Gaming Conventions!
Bogdan LashchenkoPocket Pair's Palworld is set to receive a Pokemon mod, integrating characters from the renowned Nintendo franchise into the game. Ever since the unveiling of the initial Palworld trailer in 2021, the game has garnered attention for its striking resemblances to Pokemon, featuring Pals like Lamball and Direhowl, as well as a capturing device akin to Pokemon's Poke Balls, known as Pal Spheres. This resemblance has led to online gamers dubbing the game as "Pokemon with guns."
Players are drawing comparisons between the designs of Pals and Pokemon, accusing Palworld of directly borrowing from Game Freak's Pokemon. While several monster-catching games have drawn inspiration from Pokemon in the past, some fans feel that Palworld has taken this influence too far.
Recently, just days after Palworld secured its position as one of Steam's top-paid games, YouTuber Toasted Shoes has unveiled a mod preview that not only transforms the player character into Ash Ketchum from Pokemon but also turns the Pals into Pokemon. The brief video showcases Ash relaxing on the beach surrounded by Torchic, Pikachu, and Wooloo before transitioning to scenes featuring Palworld's gameplay, now populated by Pokemon. The preview also provides a sneak peek into the Paldeck, Palworld's equivalent of the Pokedex, featuring a mix of Pals and Pokemon, including Pansage and Oddish.
Moreover, the mod introduces other Pokemon characters such as Brock, Misty, and Jessie from Team Rocket, who replace Zoe and Grizzbolt as bosses in the Rayne Syndicate Tower. While the Palworld mod not only alters the graphics but also changes the in-game text to match Pokemon and character names, some entries in the Paldeck still reference the original Pal that has been replaced, like Pengullet and Gumoss. Toasted Shoes plans to release a video tomorrow showcasing the mod's complete capabilities.
Palworld marked a significant achievement during its launch weekend, surpassing concurrent player counts of Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077. Despite this success and ongoing comparisons to Pokemon, and despite the absence of official mod support according to the Palworld FAQ on Steam, there is a possibility that Pocket Pair or even Nintendo may take measures to prevent the mod's release.
