Some expected it, while others did not, but Valve has once again delighted Dota 2 fans with a new update. On December 19, 2024, the well-known Frostivus event, dedicated to the New Year holidays, was released on the official website and in the game, lasting until January 15, 2025. It traditionally features a new treasure chest with sets for heroes, emojis, seasonal sounds for the chat wheel, and much more exciting content, which we’ll cover in this article.

The Story of Frostivus 2024: A Tale about Frostivus Spirit and Magical Hats

A dedicated article for this update has been published on the official Dota 2 website, where Valve recaps the year for the game and outlines what players can expect from this event. Special attention is given to the frostivus tale and the hats, which embody the true spirit of this Dota holiday.

Upon reading the article and logging into the game, the first thing you'll encounter is a special story narrated by Crystal Maiden for Bakit and Grall. This story revolves around Granch (yes, a nod to the famous Grinch), who, instead of stealing Christmas gifts, targeted magical hats this time.

In brief, the inhabitants of the town Chutgorod – Chutikis had colorful hats that Granch didn’t own, so on the frosty night of Frostivus, he decided to sneak into the town and steal them. However, by morning, Granch heard some noise – it was the town’s residents marching towards him to reclaim their magical hats. United in spirit, the townsfolk managed to defeat Granch, and that’s how this whimsical tale concludes.

As you might have guessed, the central theme of Frostivus revolves around magical hats. Every hero in the game will wear these hats, and players can steal them from opponents by defeating them. There’s also an option to snatch a hat and flee. Players earn points for collecting these hats, which can be spent in the Frosty Forge.

Frostivus Forge

Another cornerstone of this year's Frostivus is the Forge. Here, heroes can exchange points to obtain special items. The rewards are divided into tiers: 1, 2, and 3, as well as special categories like Fallen Crown, Legacy, and Premium.

To earn these rewards, players will need to play Dota and complete tasks to accumulate points. Points can be exchanged for special items, which in turn unlock rewards. Here's a list of all the special items and how to earn them:

Crystallized Joy:

• Win a game – 25 points
• Pick up a Bounty Rune – 1 point
• Kill a courier – 1 point

Essence of Friendship:

• Play in a group – 10 points
• Heal an allied hero +0.0002 points
• Assist in a kill – 1 point
• High-five after killing a hero – 2 points
• High-five an enemy – 2 points

Concentrate Whimsy:

• Steal a hat – 5 points
• Kill a hero – 1 point
• Deal damage to a hero +0.0001 points

Festive Spirit:

• Commend a player – 1 point
• Receive a commendation – 1 point
• Throw a snowball at a hero and kill them – 2 points
• Push a penguin +0.1 points
• Build a snowman before the game starts – 5 points

As you collect a certain number of these special items, you can unlock rewards and gradually advance to higher tiers with better prizes.

Rewards from the Frostivus Forge

Rewards from Tiers 1, 2, and 3, as well as Fallen Crown and Legacy categories, can be earned simply by playing and accumulating points.
