Three Games to Pass the Time Before the Release Cyberpunk 2077

December has come out of the blue and it means that the amount of news breaks about Cyberpunk 2077 must  increase dramatically. We decided to add one more. In this article, we will try to guess what the inevitably iconic Cyberpunk 2077 will look like and what to do on these several days until its launch.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – a Prelude to Cyberpunk 2077

This selection could not ignore the main creation of the authors of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. CD Projekt Red did colossal work on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

The work of the Polish studio was highly appreciated. The Witcher 3 is still keeping its top position as a game with an open world which is respected by the gaming community. Many developers treat The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as an etalon of gaming development and storytelling (hi, Ubisoft).

And now think about what is Cyberpunk 2077 going to be like taking into account the fact that since the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red have turned into a big studio of real professionals that have worked on one of the best games in history?

Imagined? Now let’s remember the words of CDRP that The Witcher 3 was a great warm-up in quest design before Cyberpunk 2077 and all your questions will be gone.

My only worry is the plot structure of Cyberpunk 2077. The matter is that the story of The Witcher 3 was created with the help of its characters: charismatic, catchy and bright. They were the plot movers that made the world around themselves. In Cyberpunk 2077, CDRP try themselves in an opposite direction: now it works in the way that characters don’t create a world but a world creates characters. A characterless and empty V is placed somewhere in a hostile and “alive” megapolis Night City. We will see what it can lead to on 10 December.

Why it is worth playing: to remember what CDRP are capable of

Deus Ex Series – Cyberpunk Etalon. Still?

Cyberpunk niche is pretty small and most creators do not want to enter this genre. So, Cyberpunk 2077 has no opponents. Almost, they have to compete with Deus Ex.

Deus Ex is an etalon of Cyberpunk. It is the darkest fantasy story about dirty corrupted cities with supremacy of shadow government and giant corporations. The main feature of the genre is that transhumanism is absolutized. Cyberpunk is in blossom. 

The only but is that Deus Ex is more about action than RPG. This is its main difference from Cyberpunk 2077. Even though it is possible that, when launched, the game by CDPR will happen to be a slasher shooter instead of a plot-oriented story.

Why it is worth playing: it is a great title for those who want to dive into esthetics of gloomy cities of the future and to tune into the cyberpunk energy. 

Fallout 1-2 – RPG Etalon. Now

If we talk about Deus Ex as a partial RPG and whole cyberpunk, the situation with Fallout is reversed.

Of course, Fallout is not cyberpunk. It is a dystopia even though it appeared thanks to the apocalypse. But in a way, it is closer to Cyberpunk 2077 than Deus Ex.

Closer if we look at its capabilities. I see that many people mistakenly think that Cyberpunk 2077 is a kind of GTAV in a future megapolis. However, after reading early media reviews and watching some gameplay, you can easily understand that Cyberpunk is firstly about capabilities. And capabilities and immensity of gameplay are synonyms to Fallout.

Even though the fourth part of the series took a wrong turn according to many gamers, it does not cancel the achievements of Fallout 1-2 and New Vegas.

Why it is worth playing: to remember an etalon RPG title with an open world.

As there is not so much time before the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, this Top should not include more titles. So that’s it for now. See you, samurais.
