Players fight through rounds against different opponents until one player or duo hits the score limit.

How To Play Arenas Boxfights in Fortnite

Open Fortnite and navigate to the Discovery screen or game mode selector, then select Arenas Boxfights and queue into Solos or Duos. The mode also integrates with Showdown 1v1 — players can challenge friends directly from the Showdown leaderboard or friends list for an unranked duel where the first to seven round wins takes the match.

Arenas Boxfights is Epic's first purpose-built boxfight map. Boxfights rank among the most common user-made Creative islands in Fortnite, and Arenas is the developer's attempt to create an official, polished version of that format. The mode was built using Unreal Editor for Fortnite and supports both Solos (1v1) and Duos (2v2). Building is mandatory — there is no zero-build variant, because the arena is an empty square with no natural cover.

Sixteen players enter a round-robin format, meaning every player or duo faces every other competitor across multiple rounds. The first to reach the score limit wins the match. Arena layouts rotate round to round across four grid sizes: 3x3, 3x5, 4x4, and 5x5. Smaller grids favor close-range aggression; larger ones give room to build and maneuver. Weapon loadouts are locked per match and rotate match to match, so every competitor fights with identical gear. If a round runs long, Overtime removes the ability to place new builds, flips all existing structures to a neutral state so opponents can edit them, and ramps up storm damage to force a finish. The footstep audio visualizer is disabled, keeping fights visually focused.

Arenas Boxfights Rewards and How To Grab Them Forever

Two free cosmetic rewards are available through Arenas Boxfights Quests. Win 125 rounds in Ranked matches to unlock the Cracked Blueprint spray. Win 300 rounds in Ranked to earn the Builder's Crest back bling. Only Ranked round wins count — unranked duels do not apply. I think the 300-win threshold for the Builder's Crest is steep enough to feel earned, which is the right call for a competitive mode.

How The Arenas Boxfights' Ranking System Works

Arenas launches as a ranked-first mode. Instead of invisible skill-based matchmaking, your visible rank determines opponents. Everyone starts at the same rank on launch day, so experienced players may want to wait a few days for the field to separate. In Duos, if both teams lose a partner to a disconnect or quit, the two remaining solo players merge into a new duo and receive the higher point total. I see this team-merge mechanic as the kind of small fix that prevents real frustration, though being entirely new to Fortnite it will likely glitch on occasion.

Epic confirmed it plans to test tournaments for Arenas in the near future. The tournament format will use a stricter round-robin structure with heightened competitive stakes, differing slightly from standard Ranked.
