NRG Defeat EDward Gaming 2:0 at VALORANT Champions 2025
At VALORANT Champions 2025, a tense matchup between EDward Gaming and NRG ended in a 2-0 victory for the American side. The opening map, Abyss, began with a dominant showing from EDG on attack, as the Chinese squad secured a 10-2 halftime lead with aggressive plays and sharp executions. NRG, who had opted for an unusual composition with two controllers (Harbor and Vyse) and Yoru, looked shaky at first but turned the game around in the second half. Despite EDG winning the second pistol round and continuing to control the pace, NRG strung together a series of successful attacks and edged out the map in overtime, 17-15. The standout was mada, posting 31/24/4 with ~280 ACS and ~222 ADR, while skuba also made key contributions to the comeback.
On the second map, Corrode, both teams stayed neck-and-neck, with the half ending 6-6. EDG once again secured the pistol round, but NRG gained the upper hand in the gun rounds and built momentum through solid defensive setups. A highlight came when skuba pulled off an ace, swinging the momentum further in NRG’s favor. In the closing rounds, NRG reached match point and closed out the game 13-11 despite EDG’s resistance. For NRG, skuba and s0m stood out with strong performances, while ZmjjKK and Smoggy were the most consistent for EDG, though the team lacked the stability to turn the series around.
Ultimately, NRG claimed the 2-0 series win, showcasing resilience and adaptability under pressure. Their comeback on Abyss proved to be the turning point, while the composed finish on Corrode sealed their path forward in the tournament.
