The three-month marathon of the League of Legends in China has come to an end. The group stage of LPL Spring 2023 has ended with a lot of quality and not so quality League of Legends.

We suggest you take a quick look at the results of the first leg of LPL Spring 2023 and get ready for the start of the playoffs of the biggest regional league in the professional season. The start of the latter, by the way, is scheduled for March 30.

JD Gaming and EDward Gaming on the throne: how China's "mastodons" made the playoffs

There are 17 teams playing within the LPL, making it the most extensive league in the entire world. Obviously, such a large number of teams affects the format of the competition.

In the LPL Spring 2023, it matters which team is ranked, but with some adjustments. So, for example, it does not matter who tops the standings and who finished 2nd: both teams qualify directly for the quarterfinals of the playoffs.

In the LPL 2023 Spring Split, the top 2 were the "heavyweights": JD Gaming and EDward Gaming. Both clubs made it to the quarterfinals, but the path was extremely thorny.

At LPL Spring there was a situation where 4 teams were fighting for a place in the quarterfinals. The aforementioned JD Gaming and EDward Gaming were equally opposed by LNG Esports.

The three clubs finished the regular season with a 13-5 score, but the results of the head-to-head encounters were inexorable: JD outplayed EDG, lost to LNG, but the latter lost to EDward Gaming. Such a turnaround allowed the Chinese giants to make it through to the quarterfinals.

Opening of the season - Weibo Gaming

If the passing of JD, EDG, LNG and others in the LPL Spring 2023 playoffs was expected, the top 4 for Weibo is already a sensation. The team had only made it to the playoffs twice before, last year.

Reaching the LPL Spring 2023 playoffs was helped by the club's transfer policy. Before the new season, 5 players joined the team.

The new recruits were Karsa, Xiaohu, Light and Crisp. Karsa, for example, played for Royal Never Give Up, TOP Esports, won MSI in 2018 and LPL Summer in 2020. Xiaohu is an RNG legend: spent 7 years at the club, during which he managed to win MSI three times and 4 LPL championships.

Speaking of the Weibo line-up, let's not forget TheShy. The 2018 World Champion played his part towards Weibo's playoff passage.

After the transfer window, there is every chance of seeing a new "star" and a regular competitor to the region's established top tier JD, EDG, TOP Esports and others in China.

LPL Spring 2023 group stage results and playoff seeding

In addition to the aforementioned JDG, EDward Gaming, LNG and Weibo, Bilibili Gaming, Oh My God, TOP Esports, ThunderTalk Gaming, RNG and Team WE made the playoffs.

Overall, everyone who was expected there made it to the playoffs. The conditional disappointment of the group stage is Invictus Gaming, who were deflated in the early weeks but deflated closer to the epicentre of the LPL Spring 2023 group stage.

The main stage of LPL Spring 2023 kicks off on March 30. In the first, we get to watch Royal Never Give Up and ThunderTalk Gaing face off.
