The regular season battles rage on in Western Europe. In the second match of the day, Tundra Esports and the Gaimin Gladiators will play.

The new Western European tourney has a very interesting story. As of week 3 of the games it is not at all clear who will go to the Berlin Major 2023 from Europe.

The list of main contenders includes Tundra and Gladiators, but they still have not managed to guarantee themselves a place there. The face-to-face meeting will decide a lot.

The Gaimin Gladiators approach the match in first place in the standings. The team's only loss in five matches.

Tundra Esports is in third place in the standings. The reigning champions of The International have 3 wins in 5 matches.

We try to figure out which of the teams will be able to improve their position in the standings. Will Tundra Esports be able to join GG at the top of the standings or will the Gladiators virtually guarantee themselves a trip to the Berlin Major 2023 after today's victory.

Gaimin Gladiators form

We begin the breakdown with an analysis of the Gaimin Gladiators' form. They're the favourites to win the match.

They're favourites, and by a wide margin. The odds on GG's victory are in the region of 1.3. A figure like that hints at a significant advantage for the Gladiators and it's hard to argue with that.

In the new season, the Gladiators remain with The Lima Major 2023 vibe. The team is playing confidently in the regular season, barring isolated excesses.

There have been some complaints about Gladiators' play this season, but slowly but surely these have faded as the season has gone on. If the team approaches the match seriously, treating their opponents with respect, they dictate their terms and play well in their chances.

Gaimin Gladiators performance

GG finished their first season in Western Europe in second place. The team won 5 games out of 7 thus securing their position.

In addition to DPC they played in outside tournaments. One of these was the BB Xmas Show where the gladiators tried out their new line-up. They did it tastefully, winning the grand final of those very Team Spirit.

The club then played the BB Universe - Comics Zone. This time they failed to repeat the success of Xmas Show: Team Spirit knocked out GG, leaving them in 3rd place.

Having qualified for the Lima Major 2023, they easily won the championship. After winning Group A the team was determined for the final play-offs.

The team had not lost a single card in the main stage of the Lima Major 2023. The Gaimin Gladiators easily defeated Team Aster, Entity and twice beat Team Liquid (in the top-seed and grand final).

The winning streak over the Liquid continued in the new DPC season. In the opening game of the second round, the Gaimin Gladiators shut out Team Liquid 2-0.

Next up, GG played against Ooredoo Thunders. What should have ended in a beating of OT turned into a 2-1 victory for the latter.

After Ooredoo Thunders, Gaimin Gladiators risked losing to another tournament underdog, the Greeks Monaspa. The match ended 2-1 in favor of GG, but the cards they took couldn't be called easy.

The situation stabilized only in the last match. GG stomped on OG without a chance, although the latter in the new season cause only sadness, and watching their games one gets tired.

Continued to score points in the match against Entity. The latter were unable to counter anything against their formidable opponents and logically fell away on two cards.

Gaimin Gladiators Heroes

The most successful heroes were Treant Protector and Rubick (7 games and 77% of wins).

Nature`s Prophet has also been chosen 9 times, but has "only" 55% of wins. Other frequent picks for Gaimin Gladiators are Lina (8 matches, 75% wins), Undying (7 matches, 85% wins), Broodmother, Puck and Batrider (6 matches, 83% wins).

Tundra Esports Form

Opposing the confident Gladiators will be the less confident Tundra Esports. Reigning world champions will approach the match in the status of the outsider.

Bookmakers do not particularly believe in Tundra Esports in current conditions. The chance of winning the team estimated odds in the region of 2.8.

The number does not seem to be fatal, but in the context of the battle for the top 3 of the tournament is very telling. Tundra look sluggish, and that sluggishness has been hanging over the team for months.

It's quite entertaining to watch the swagger of Tundra this season. Despite obvious problems in the games, they continue to bend their line, often to their own detriment.

In this game, they will have trouble starting from the laning stage, as the Gladiators look fresher on an individual level.

Tundra Esports' performance

The team finished 3rd in the first round of DPC 2023: WEU - Upper Division. The team finished 4-3 and thanks to round-robin replay, qualified for the Lima Major 2023.

Tundra had a more confident showing in the BB Universe - Comics Zone. There, the reigning champions of The International managed to take first place, beating Spirit 3-2 in the final.

Lima Major 2023 ended miserably for Tundra Esports. Although they qualified for the playoffs from 6th place in the group, their journey was cut short in the first leg of the relegation round after their 1-2 draw with Aster.

In the new round of DPC 2023: WEU Upper Division, Tundra Esports made their debut with a match against OG (2-0). There were chances of falling behind on two maps, but Tiny from Saksa and Pango from Nine both turned things around in Tundra's favour.

Next, Tundra played against Entity. Not a chance for Fishman and company but 2-0 in favour of Tundra.

In the fourth match of the season, one of the main sensations of the tourney happened. Tundra Esports absolutely senselessly gave the match to Ooredoo Thunders with a score of 0-2, losing on the first map due to performance and drafting on the second with outright nonsense against the OT heroes.

In the match against Liquid Tundra, they looked like a "broken trough". The encounter ended with a score of 2-0.

Tundra Esports Heroes

Undying remains Tundra's most popular character. The character appeared 9 times, of which he won 7 matches.

Lina has appeared in 8 matches and has a 75% win rate. Also picked DOOM in 8 games, winning half of his games.

Enigma has appeared in spades 7 matches with 71% wins, while Mirana, with a similar number of matches, has a crushing 28% win rate.

History of face-offs

The teams had previously met each other three times in the past draw. All three matches were decided by the Gladiators (DPC 2023: WEU Upper Division Tour 1, BB Universe Comics Zone and The Lima Major 2023).

The outcome of the match

I don't see any reason why the Gladiators could lose in this match. Both the history of head-to-head encounters and the level of play of the Gladiators this season speak in favour of the Gladiators.

We have already seen Tundra in a match against a serious opponent, Team Liquid. They weren't on the map, and I don't consider the Gladiators any weaker than Liquid, so my bet is in favour of the Gladiators.

Bottom line: 2-0 win for GG.
