Unlock the Power of Support Naga Siren: Why TI's Top Hero is Underused in Ranked Play

This year’s The International has come and gone, and while you'd expect one of the top heroes from Dota 2’s biggest tournament to see a surge in popularity among casual players, that hasn’t been the case with support Naga Siren. Despite her dominance at TI 2024, where she had a staggering 96% contest rate according to Spectral, her impact in ranked matches has been minimal.

Naga Siren was only picked in 12 games during the tournament, but her teams won three-quarters of those matches thanks to her versatile abilities and, most notably, the Deluge Hero Facet. Yet, despite her success, Naga Siren's win rate in ranked play remains unimpressive. According to Dotabuff, she holds a win rate of just 47.79% across all ranks in the past week, as casual players continue to misplay her by focusing on her traditional carry role, hoping for a lucky break.

The pros have unlocked Naga Siren’s potential as a support, primarily due to the power of her Deluge ability. This replaces her usual armor-reducing Rip Tide with an active effect that reduces enemies' status resistance and slows them down. Even more impactful is that Deluge works with Naga’s illusions, spawned through Mirror Image or Manta Style, allowing her to affect multiple enemies during team fights and extend the duration of crowd control abilities like Ensnare.

In a meta where rooting and trapping enemies is more effective than stunning them, Naga Siren can single-handedly turn the tide of a team fight. Professional players have taken advantage of this by building utility items first, such as Mekanism and Arcane Boots, before upgrading to Guardian Greaves and a Blink Dagger for better positioning. A key part of this strategy is also the Aghanim’s Scepter, which grants her the Reel In ability, pulling ensnared enemies directly to her.

Naga Siren’s natural stat growth gives her high armor and health, making her a durable presence on the battlefield. Her passive Evasion, granted when her illusions are nearby, further increases her survivability. In addition, her ultimate, Song of the Siren, can reset team fights and save her team from losing engagements in an instant.
