Teams from China may miss ESL One Stockholm Major 2022
/According to the former event director of Mars Media, teams from China may miss ESL One Stockholm Major 2022. The main problem for the teams may be a hard lockdown, which was introduced by local authorities after a new outbreak of coronavirus.
Given the current situation in Shanghai, I'm really interested in how this will affect the ESL One Stockholm Major 2022. I would be surprised if the lockdown ended this month.
According to Dimitri Valletta, the end of the lockdown in Shanghai, where the participants of the DPC CN 2021/2022 Tour 2: Division I are currently located, is unlikely to end before the end of April, and it is not known how long it will last. The functionary clarified that teams may refuse to participate in the championship not only because of the inability to promptly return to China after the tournament, but also because of a banal ban on leaving the country.
Note that similar news also applies to the Mid-Season Invitational 2022 in the League of Legends discipline. According to Dexerto, which refers to the words of Doinb, teams from China may miss the championship. The main reason is the coronavirus restrictions, due to which the teams will not be able to visit South Korea.
ESL One Stockholm Major 2022 will take place from May 12 to 22 in Sweden at the Hovet Arena Stockholm. The championship will be attended by four teams from Western Europe and China, three teams from Eastern Europe (under question), two teams from North and South America, and three teams from Southeast Asia.
Recall that earlier the organizers changed the format of the ESL One Stockholm Major 2022 — ESL decided to abandon the WildCard stage and direct invitations to the championship playoffs.
The current roster for ESL One Stockholm Major 2022 is as follows: Thunder Awaken, PSG.LGD, BOOM Esports, OG, Fnatic, Team Liquid and Gaimin Gladiators.
