FaZe Clan is the second reigning champion in history to be eliminated from the Major in last place

The FaZe Clan team becomes the second reigning Major winner in history, who not only failed to defend the title, but also crashed out without a single victory on the last line. A similar situation happened only once - in 2016.

Turning to history, the French team Team Envy became the champion of DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015, where they outperformed NAVI in the grand final with a score of 2:0. However, at the next major, MLG Major Championship: Columbus 2016, the team failed to defend their title. On the contrary, the "favorites" of that championship were defeated by Counter Logic Gaming (8:16) and Gambit Gaming (13:16), taking 13-16th place.

Now a similar scenario has happened with FaZe Clan. Recall that RobbaN's wards became the winners of PGL Major Antwerp 2022, when they beat NAVI in the grand final with a score of 2:1. However, at the current IEM Rio Major 2022, the European team suffered three defeats from Cloud9 (14:16), Team Vitality (14:16) and Bad News Eagles, taking the final 15-16th place.

IEM Rio Major 2022 takes place from October 31 to November 13 in Brazil at the Jeunesse Arena and at the Riocentro convention center. As part of the championship, 24 teams from the CIS, Europe, North and South America, and Asia are fighting for a total prize pool of $1,250,000, ranking points in the BLAST Premier table, as well as tickets to BLAST Premier: World Final 2022 and IEM Katowice 2023 for the winner.
