IEM Dallas 2022: FURIA make an unrealistic comeback and knock out G2 from the tournament

G2 Esports, being two rounds away from the won series, failed to oppose anything against the reinforced concrete defense of FURIA.

G2 Esports vs FURIA

  1. G2 removed Overpass
  2. FURIA removed Dust2
  3. G2 picked Inferno
  4. FURIA picked Vertigo
  5. G2 removed Ancient
  6. FURIA removed Nuke
  7. Mirage was left over

The first public meeting in Dallas began with the Inferno map. For the European squad, this map is the most successful in terms of win percentage, namely 100% in eight games against famous teams. Despite this, G2 still have difficulties on it, the last meetings now and then end with a very close score. At the recent PGL Major Antwerp 2022, G2 Esports already met with the Brazilian roster on the Inferno map, at that time the map left G2 with a score of 16:14. The game in the first half was as close as possible, not without luck for the Brazilians, as well as for G2, the first half ended. In one of the saffe rounds, win a 1 vs 2 clutch by shooting the second player with usp-s and disarming the bomb at the last second, later Aleksib, being on low-hp with an AWP in his hands, makes an unrealistic nose-flick, thanks to which he wins the round. The second half started rather badly for G2 Esports, as the result on the scoreboard was 7:11 in favor of FURIA. But once G2 got to the point of a full-fledged purchase, the game was unexpectedly easy. For the attack, the Brazilians, apart from the pistol round, had little to oppose to the European squad. The map ended with a score of 16:13 in favor of the G2 Esports team.

The second Vertigo map for G2 went very well, taking 11 rounds for the defense side, taking into account the lost pistol round, is an excellent result. The meeting between these teams at Vertigo featured strong defensive dominance. At that moment, when the score was 14:7 in favor of G2 Esports, it seemed that the outcome of this meeting was already clear and understandable, it was clear that even on the broadcast the number of people began to decrease, so everyone was confident in the victory of G2. But then the factor of two lost pistol rounds reminded of itself, FURIA did not think of giving up the opportunity to reach the semi-finals, even when the score became 15:12, they did not make mistakes and took three rounds in regular time without any problems, as well as three rounds in a row in the series overtime. All it took for FURIA was to win one of the three rounds for the terrorists, which they did on the third try. The Brazilians rejoice at the comeback and victory on the map with a score of 17:19 in their favor.

The decisive map for both teams was Mirage. And at least some analysts said that Mirage is a very comfortable map for G2, since Europeans play Mirage on the FPL a lot. The fact that FURIA will simply take and move on the courage of its rivals took place. What basically happened, the excellent attack and the imposition of their game from the Brazilian team did not leave a chance for G2 Esports, they were simply outplayed tactically. FURIA now and then terrified the center of the map, and G2 could not cope with the attack proposed by the Brazilians. The change of sides did not improve the situation much, G2 Esports managed to get only one round into their piggy bank. FURIA finish this meeting in their favor with a huge lead on the last map 5:16.

FURIA advance to the semi-finals where they will try to take revenge on the ENCE team tonight.

I would like to note such a thing, G2 Esports did not take a single pistol round out of six possible ones, which could directly affect the outcome of this confrontation. G2 suffers a very disappointing defeat and leaves the Intel Extreme Masters 2022, taking 5th-6th place and earning $10,000 + 350 EPT points + 225 BLAST Premier points.
