What to expect from The International 2023

In the fast-growing world of e-sports, Dota 2 is one of the most popular and competitive titles. In the world of Dota 2, where precision and strategy meet lightning-fast action, one of the key aspects that keeps fans and enthusiasts engaged is the team rankings. These rankings serve as the pulse of the e-sports community, acting as a barometer of team performance and position in the global Dota 2 hierarchy. The main event of The International 2023 will take place at the renovated Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington, formerly known as Key Arena. The revamped venue can accommodate between 17,000 and 18,000 spectators. According to Valve's official announcement, the tournament will be spread across different locations:

  • Group Stage (12-15 October): Venue to be confirmed
  • Playoffs (20-22 October): Seattle Convention Center
  • Final stage (27-29 October): Climate Pledge Arena

Phase one (12-15 October 2023): Four groups, each consisting of five teams, will compete in a round-robin format. All matches in this phase are Bo2. The top two teams from each group will advance to the next phase, while the team with the lowest score will be eliminated.

Second phase: The remaining sixteen teams will take part in single elimination matches in a Bo3 format to determine who moves on to the playoffs.

Play-offs:

Teams will compete in a double elimination format, with eight teams starting in the top ladder and eight in the bottom ladder. All matches will take place in a Bo3 system. Matches in the final phase will be played in a Bo3 format and the grand final will be a Bo5 match.

This year's tournament favourites

One team generating considerable hype is PSG.LGD. This Chinese powerhouse has been a dominant force on the Dota 2 scene for years and is always at the forefront of the biggest tournaments. With their all-star cast and history of success, PSG.LGD is undoubtedly a team to watch.

Another strong contender is Virtus.pro. Hailing from Russia, Virtus.pro has a rich history in Dota 2 and a squad of highly skilled players. They consistently top the Dota Pro Circuit and their aggressive style of play often surprises opponents.

Evil Geniuses, a North American team, is another favourite for The International 2023. Led by one of the best Dota 2 players of all time, Artour "Arteezy" Babaev, and experienced captain, Tal "Fly" Aizik, EG has the talent and experience to go all the way.

On the European front, Team Liquid stands out as a strong contender. They have a number of international tournament wins to their credit and a versatile squad that is able to adapt to different strategies.

TSM, a North American organisation with a relatively new Dota 2 squad, is making waves with their performances on the regional stage. While they may be considered the underdogs, their hunger and determination could make them a surprise at TI23.

Team Spirit, champions of The International 10, are undoubtedly one of the favourites to win again. The CIS team has proven that they can compete with the best on the biggest stage.
